Whenever you get a new coach you get that initial push. The Berube effect is wearing off. This is with Tanev out last year's team. It's time to make a major trade and I think Reilly is that guy. We don't have the pieces to play the style Berube wants and this isn't a contender. Don't resign Tavares we haven't done anything yet.

If we could trade Rielly and get something else that would be amazing

We don’t and our 5v5 numbers are not good offensively even tho we have probably 3 of the top 20 players in the game. Just because Carolina has doesn’t mean squat concerning the leafs. We are trying to put a square peg in a round hole here.
If you can’t see the struggles we have offensively here I don’t know what to say except Merry Christmas :)
Yes - we've scored 69 goals 5on5 this year (16th most) and given up 56 (3rd fewest). Not good.

I wish.

Shanahan maybe but I’m convinced we’re stuck with this core until they either retire or walk voluntarily.

Better strap yourself in for the next decade.
I think they’re content with that - being in a playoff race every year has its benefits. They still market themselves as one of the best teams in Canada even though they’re probably the 5 th best.

For the 11000th time. Rielly has a NMC. He’s not going anywhere unless he wants to, and that’s highly unlikely

Leafs need a culture of hating to lose. None of the Core 4 have ever really showed that and it shows in the results unfortunately.

I think Nylander has that fire but I’m not sure about the other guys. Of course it affects them but I do think they lack that drive overall that guys like MacKinnon, Crosby, Kucherov, McDavid etc possess.

Yup, None of Matthews, Marner, Nylander or Tavares are going anywhere anytime soon. Throw Rielly in that mix, also.

It’s an easy market to play in with no media pressure and they’re shielded from everything and everyone else and they’re paid well. Management seems content where they are and money makes the city palatable to live in.

Yup. To my mind, the media in this city, although there may be many of them in number, are some of the softest in all of professional sports. For instance, they all know what Matthews' injury is, and yet no one says a word.
