You thought Nylander had a good game because he assisted on our two goals? I think I have higher standards for him than you do. We needed him to be above average with the key players that were missing. You know when Nylander is having a good game, he’s dominant with the puck. He was not, and that’s ok. He’s been great for us…just not today.
I really believe on nights like this that players like Reaves, 4th liners and tougher third liners can ignite the energy. On this team, they do not. They are not capable or have desire. Tiny Max tried. Big Kampf is useless for his role. As 3rd or 4th centre he ads no energy, he inspires no one.
With Tanev out, cannot believe that Reaves was not in...not by position but by stature. For the past almost 7 weeks Reaves has NOT done his job. He protects no one, he energizes no one.
These are 2 big guys filling roles they do not complete

It's not the lack offence that scares me, it's the lack of defensive awareness from our forward group. This team's calling card is supposed to be team defence. At least 3 of 'peg goals possibly 4 were because of poor defensive play from our forwards... can't win a cup with this sort of lazy play.

Grebykin in his first few games, I thought his intensity fell off a few games after his most recent stint, is the type of player we need every night, just be a water bug that hits and creates havoc and occasionally creates offence..

Need to be part of what’s going out

Man he is useless, watching his little body bounce off those big Winnipeg Jets defencemen, comical?
I think he’s a pretty good 4c if we have to pivot off kampf

Too late for that re tool maybe but rebuild doesn’t make much sense we need to trade for Calgary captain and Rasmus andersson and let myers play with rielly on the third pair I guess
Rielly needs to play up to his cap hit or he needs to go along with one of the 3 amigos if they blow it this year because the East is there for the taking.

Rielly is -8 and 29th in scoring for dmen and that is thanks to points on the PP when it sparked after Matthews' first stint on IR.

Leafs were in the Christmas spirit last night gifting the Jets an easy win.

I like Woll but if you plan on winning the cup you want a guy like Hellebuyck in net. He consistently delivers stellar performances night after night year after year. Plus he can stop a shot taken from the blue line.

Woll struggles with point shots for some reason.

Not as bad as Marner struggles with breakaways. Pionk lifted his stick but I don't think it would've mattered. I've seen enough Marner breakaways to know they all end the same way.

Without a goal.

I feel bad for anyone taking their date to last nights game. They're losers now too through association. Even worse for the working class dad bringing his kids for their Christmas present.

A lump of coal would have provided the same disappointment while costing a lot less.

The same Hellebuyck who was playing at an ECHL level in the previous two playoffs?

He, like the Leafs core, has a ton to prove in the playoffs.

Mentioned before that it’s hard to score playing Berube dump and chase style. It handcuffs our stars all for the purpose to be better defensively and for so called getting prepared for playoff hockey where for a unexplained reason the rules change.

So now you have your top six with less puck possession and your bottom six still struggling defensively and not offering much scoring.

And fans are finally realizing that Reilly isn’t good defensively and coaches have to play musical chairs again in trying to find a partner for him that can hide his weaknesses? How many yrs is this now? With his cap hit he somehow escapes criticism …..Nylander is asking why :)

Supposedly our 5 vs 5 numbers are subpar offensively

I forgot to add that I laughed last night on the Domi fight.
Fans proclaim enforcers are important…..Here will have a supposedly tough guy in Domi picking a fight with a 1st time fighter and the end result because players are wearing armour and a shield was Leafs end up on the PK while the kid Domi picked on laughs because he felt nothing with all that armour on.

I just laughed ……it was pointless just like useless enforcers like Reaves are

While on the topic of why we will never see this core win a Stabley Cup.

Everyone, please enjoy this playoff battle between two average-to-small-sized stars on opposing teams, right in the goalie’s crease. You’ll never see a video of our softies doing anything similar, despite being paid significantly more.

I didn't say he had a good game. I just wondered why you thought the best player on the Leafs was "invisible".

If you don't consider two points in a game high enough to match your standards, what is?

Marner attempted an uncharacteristic number of long-range shots. That didn’t result in useful offence, and it was the catalyst for a counterattack goal from the Jets.
The New York Times writer isnt wrong about Marner and long range shots but apparently he hasn't watched Marner very much because he called it uncharacteristic.

I'll word it a different way, what does he do to help this team win in the Playoffs? What specific tangible skill does he bring that helps the team win?
pk defensively and cheap

The apathy is definitely concerning. Hey, I get it, I also don't care much till the playoffs. Oh well. I wish I, and others, enjoyed the regular season more. Blame the team for making this a reality.

Carolina has played dump and chase hockey more than probably every team in the league for a few years now and they still dominate puck possession. This excuse needs to stop. They still get plenty of chances to score.

We don’t and our 5v5 numbers are not good offensively even tho we have probably 3 of the top 20 players in the game. Just because Carolina has doesn’t mean squat concerning the leafs. We are trying to put a square peg in a round hole here.
If you can’t see the struggles we have offensively here I don’t know what to say except Merry Christmas :)

You clearly see them getting chances they usually bury and just aren't this year. Maybe your numbers don't tell you that but your eyes can.

Perhaps he wants to play a bad and ineffective style.
Only in Leaf land would this be said and someone actually mean it.

Tough to win without your best defenceman, best scorer, and best goalie. Made tougher when Nylander and Marner were invisible. Woll wasn’t to blame but he wasn’t great and he had to be. His rebound control awful. Timmins sucks so bad, we can’t go into the playoffs with this guy.
Put Mattews on LTIR until the playoffs and use the salary cap space to upgrade scoring and defence

Meh...

Dont like Marners giveaway from the blueline (his favorite spot in the offensive zone)

Dont like Nylanders 5 minute shift, 4 minutes of it on the PP.

Dont like Berube defending Marner and Nylander when asked about these plays.

This spoiled core still getting the kids gloves.

What id give to have Tortorella giving it to these guys.
Leafs need a culture of hating to lose. None of the Core 4 have ever really showed that and it shows in the results unfortunately.
