When other teams take it more seriously, Toronto is at a disadvantage.

Other teams have relaxed rules as well. PK Subban wore flashy outfits and made a Stanley a cup final, same with Carey Price.

Teams aren’t winning cups or having playoff success based on what they wear.

NBA, NFL, MLB and soccer don’t have a dress code and players/teams have success. It’s just tradition more than anything

I thought it was a quite even game.

A few mistakes (Tavares, Timmins, Tavares, and Ullmark missing Engvall's goal), but otherwise not bad. Murray maybe should have had one of them.

We saw the real advantage of home ice - Boston got to put their top line out against JT's line all night, with predictable results.
You forgot to add Rielly in that list.

Its like he forgot how to play hockey after his sabbatical.

Worse case scenario, leaf’s lose in rd 2 and dubas gets extended…PAIN!
Wait til Leafs lose in the first round AND Dubas is extended 🤣

Oh that's a nice summary of this team's reputation

This was a game where you really missed Jake Muzzin as Simmonds could have used some help in the physicality department.

Jake also would not leave Bergeron standing all alone in front on the net for his easiest unimpeded goal of the year,

a few costly mistakes and they are in the back of the leafs net. Rielly still looks like hes been injured for most of the season maybe top minutes is a bad idea at the moment till hes up to speed. hot take why not trade Morgan for his Right shot comparable since its so hard to find good RHD now a days. Also this game did show the leafs need more physicality everywhere in the line up in order to make survive a deep playoff run.

The leafs tend to have a tendency to gift the other team goals off of our own mistakes, Keefe said it best in the post game interview, “you’d think we would have learned by now”. We have breakdowns in our own end that leads to goals, but a lot of them feel self inflicted.
Part of that is just being a fan and looking at the perspective of your own team. All goals are from mistakes, peefect D doesnt allow shots let alone goals.

Think of our goals last night from their perspective. They let Engvall go end to end without a body on him and brutal gap control. They turn the puck over early in period 3 with a light forecheck by Marner and forget to cover Matthews - when they do, they overcommit and still misplay it. Bunting opens the scoring because Marchand overpursues in the neutral zone and doesnt cover Bunting. If thats Marner we say he was cheating for offense and too lazy to get back

Let's face it, the Bruins were the better team for most of the game. We kept it interesting, but I'm just not sure we're at their level this season. We need to find another gear.

Would've been nice to get the point, but I mean, it's the Leafs, so of course they were going to blow it with unforced sloppy turnovers in the last minutes.
Boston should be this good, Bergeron 2.5mil and Krejci 1 mil.
Can you imagine the team we would have with Bergeron at 2.5 mil.
Boston will win the cup this yr if there goaltending holds up.

Except for 3 turnover we would have won the game.

Clean it up

Tavares deserved a call on the drive to the net late in a just league but even in the bizarre mob rules one we watch the noncall on the slash on Bunting that's a makeup call in any other game and building. proud of the lads who could have won against this incredible Bruins team. The biggest reason I'm upset is it's a preview of how these Leafs will have to fight through incredible stickwork as they accumulate high quality scoring chances against elite opposition who get a more favourable whistle consistently

Bunting is a mf legend

We lost a tight one goal game to the team running train on the entire league....in January. It has no correlation on what will happen in April. Zero. It was a good test but win or lose that game it doesn't change our outlook in the playoffs. We just made a couple really dumb mistakes and they took advantage. Note it and move on to the next games. They are 100% beatable. Not scared of em.

All in all, they lost 4-3 without playing their best.

Timmins is not a veteran, however we've seen veterans make the same mistake, in a playoff game no-less.

Even without playing as good as they can a couple mistakes were the difference.

Leafs should have no fear of playing the Bruins.

I didn't think that it was such a bad game for us. Sure, we made some mistakes. So does every other team on the planet. We took the best team in the NHL right to the very end to decide a winner. In their barn. We are at least just as good as them right now.

We're on the back end of a competition window and supposed to be competing for the cup

Playing the Bruins tough and getting the loss shouldn't be a cause for celebration

They also beat us in basically every statistical category...

Catching the highlights but looks like Timmins had a rough game

That first bruins goal was Rielly and Timmins fault, not Tavares.

Rielly turns the puck over, Timmins caught way too high blowing the zone and Marchand finds Bergeron.
Tavares was right with Bergeron when Marchand got the puck. He stopped skating and left Bergeron wide open.

Timmins made an I’ll advised pass there for sure but I’d like to see Murray pick him up there. Not an easy save but one I thought he should have made.

I just went back and watched the goals. Really struggling to find how any of the four goals tonight were Tavares’ fault. Goal 1, Rielly whiffs on a pass. I’ll give you goal one if you wanna blame that one on Tavares for bringing it back into the zone, but he never really had possession of the puck. It was bobbling. Rielly gets possession and doesn’t make a good pass and Timmins completely blows the zone

Goal 2, Timmins make a Galchenyuk pass

Goal 3 - Simmonds and Kerfoot bump into each other. Leading to an odd man rush

Goal 4 - scramble play, Tavares does his job and tied up his man in front of the net. The winger should have been up high attacking the defender with the puck. No way shape or form is that Tavares’ fault
On the first goal Tavares had his man and stopped skating, leaving him wide open to receive the pass and score. Similar to the first goal against Detroit. Yes, there were other factors, but if he had stayed with Bergeron he would not have scored.

Fourth Boston goal started with a bad turnover by Tavares at his own blueline late in a tie game.

Honest question:
What is the value of JT be in terms of dollars, if he was to hit free agency?

keep in mind the difference between UFA and RFA, and some have new contracts already signed.
And he'd be signing for a contract kicking in at age 33, if he was UFA this summer.
Depends on term, but he'd probably get in the $8mm range, my guess.
He signed his current deal for playing age 28.

Look at 91 in the first when Murray robbed Marchand on the cross ice pass. That was a guy that was lost there.

On the bright side, we didn't bring our 'A' game and we still could have easily taken that game into OT if not for Ullmark.

Rielly has been struggling badly since his return.
