Post-Game Talk: Leafs Lose 4-3 in OT | Lead Series 3-1

They had their worst game of the series and the Sens had their best.

But even in their worst game of the series they did a lot of right things.

Most notably giving up 11 shots through 2 periods.

How often does Stolarz give up 2 goals on 11 shots and 3 goals on 14 shots?

That doesn't happen.

At the end of the day it was minor mistakes than cost them.

A stupid penalty by Domi, and yes it was a stupid penalty.

A short handed goal

A Softie in OT, and yes no matter what anyone says Stolarz sucked last night.

They gave up I think it was 21 shots and he gave up 4 goals and 2 of them, #1 and #4 were bad.

But It's 1 game It's still a 3-1 series

They give up 11 shots through 2 periods again chances are they win because I don't think Stolarz is going to have another one of those and if he does Woll is right there.

Good player, but like 34 and 88 he’s so unlikeable, a whiny rat imo…….

Thankfully your opinion is irrelevant to if he stays and is the opposite of most fans.

Treliving wants to re-sign him, hopefully, he does.

If they were playing a team with a Price, Brodeur or Hasek in goal and a D with a stud like Weber, Hedman, Pronger, Robinson, Potvin, Orr, Makar etc. there is a chance of a reverse sweep, but they are facing Ullmark and a sad Senators D let by Chabot and a young Sanderson. Sens are on life support IMO.
Last night just prolonged the inevitable. It will mean the Leafs will have a week off between games instead of 10 days, which is probably better anyway. The problem for Ottawa is that they will never be able to pull away from the Leafs in a game.

They’ll never win with that much cap tird up to four forwards, eventually someone at MLSE will figure that out, until then enjoy the regular season heroes because these guys won’t go deep, they have their hands full with Ottawa full stop……..

Me too, Leafs in 5. Anyone whining is just a negative person, we're in great shape and could have easily won last night.
You're right. What's clouding our thoughts about this game was the 4 min PP and special teams otherwise I thought we played a very good game. Four shots against in the last 2 periods is exceptional. That's a testament to how well we're playing if you take into consideration how we've smothered them in third periods. Still, that PP, Rielly's laziness, and Domi's stupidity stand out unfortunately. We'll get it done in 5.

Not sure if Sens are bad or Leafs are making them look bad. D and G are the main reason they are up 3-1 and take away their lethal PP, and the series might be tied or worse. If this is the best the core can bring, I do not like their chances against the TB/Flo winner in round #2. Luckily Tampa made it a series yesterday.

Why watch if you know the outcome?

That seems like a tremendous waste of time, and posting about it too when you already know the outcome?

Go take out a new mortgage, put it all on the Leafs losing, and enjoy the extra money...

PP is over 30%, it's been great. Like the coach said we had our looks, Matthews hit a post, it's law of averages too.

They are in the driver's seat but sorry not impressed with the core 4 other than in a few moments.

Credit for their lethal PP until last night's OT but let's face it, 5 on 5.

Marner breakaway goal in game 1 and assist to Matthews key goal in game 3.
Nylander cross ice passes to Rielly and OEL for goals in games 1 and 4.
Tavares for his goal scoring throughout the series.

Matthews assist on Marner's breakaway goal, scored a key goal into an wide open net while Ullmark was looking the other way. Wins the draw to Benoit for OT winner. Need more bud.

These are the guys who think they are worth 50% of your cap. Tavares, the least of the 4 has the most goals and fans want him to take a huge haircut.

Matthews pisses me off the most, highest paid player in the league, can't score for shit after getting his new contract. As usually 1 goal for the goal scorer in the playoffs

I didn’t say they’d lise the Ottawa series, I said they have their hands full with them, that’s not inspiring, bid step up in the next series. Ottawa doesn’t even have a legit star, that’s not the case with either the Bilts or Panthers…….

A really stupid play costs team by Domi .. that can't occur .. these type of plays kill you in playoffs .. i am sure chief will talk to him about that one .. Stolly was not at his best but he was fine .. Sens are a pretty decent team too and they deserved that game fair and square .. we took their best shot in opening 20 minutes and then started to come back in game .. we need to start better in Toronto and folk this series will get settled in 5 games which was my prediction .. we all knew Sens were fast and our Leafs have for most part competed very hard .. their tender finally had a great game too but he is a sieve in the end and sieves always sieve .. congrats to Sens on playing their best on home ice in game 4 .. well earned

To me every game the Sens have come out hitting everything, once they stop doing that the Leafs have taken over. Leafs have been lucky Ullmar has sucked and Stoli has been great, at least until kast night……

I'm confident it is only a matter of time but I'm pretty sure their history of choking is clouding some of the thoughts of the fans that are whining after last night's loss.

We are up 3-1 but I haven't seen anything that tells me they can make a deep run, let alone win the SC. It's 4 games, no idea if they can handle the grind of a deep run. So we wait to see how it plays out.

Reactions: JT AM da real deal
So annoying they automatically defaulted to putting Rielly back on the PP when JT was out. Like they literally just reverted back to their old PP structure that had little to no success, and a structure they havent really run in months, instead of just putting in a place holder like Domi in JT's spot in the bumper.

Like wtf was that thinking man. PP instantly became non-threatening having Rielly at the point and not Marner. Stupid decisions.

Don't worry Ullmark had 1 great game .. and Sens played their best game .. and we still took them to OT on their home ice .. this is not last years team .. our D is far superior to theirs .. and our G will outplay their G in game 5 .. playoffs come down to D and G and they always will

What is interesting to me is how many shots on net they have missed. Might be due to Stolarz' play getting into their head. It is too late for them IMO, but if they can solve Stolarz, they could make it interesting. Good thing is Woll is ready and able if needed.

Ive said it often all season... Stolarz isnt as positionally sound like Woll or control rebounds like Woll. Hes an upgrade on Samsonov though.

Woll keeps getting overlooked, hopefully he doesnt demand a trade.
Woll's been leaky all season and Stolarz has been on fire heading into the playoffs. He's rightfully the starter, he was bad bad bad yesterday though. Would've been nice if one of our core guys bailed our goalie out and came through with a clutch goal.

Maybe the workload is getting to Stolarz. He's got an extra day to rest. He will be fine unless the Sens pull a rabbit out of Green's ass.

Collectively they have 7 goals, 23 points, and are a +8 in four games. All of them are averaging more than a point a game. Their team is up 3-1 in the series. Ya, they are hella disappointing.

This series has so far gone pretty much exactly as expected. One blowout win and then a series of close games. I think the nerves will ramp back up for Ottawa in game 5 and the Leafs' power play will again get a lot of opportunities.

The Sens have been abusing that third line all series. It looks even worse with Pacioretty in. Put Robertson in for Game 5 where you control the matchups.

Chart seems to align with what we watched.

You guys are so dramatic. Yeah we should have won.

Remember we were down 3-0 vs Florida too.

How did that turn out?

Ottawa isn’t beating us 4 in a row.

Just get through the round healthy.

If you read a lot of the threads here you'll see that the same posters who are always complaining about Nylander's lack of effort and the same ones praising anything Marner does. I've never understood the need.
Watched the top line fumble and lose the puck pretty well all night yet some people were far more concerned with Nylander's "lack of intensity".

I don't understand either.
