1. Yes…yessssssss!

But oh wait, it’ll never happen. I’ve said several times to put that shit in like the last week of July so guys have recovered, it’s warm everywhere and it gets eyes on the league when Sportsnet or whatever people in Canada watch these days isn’t just 47 different baseball highlights.
You really think the best players in the game all would want to get back together for one weekend at the end of july for an All-Star game after a 9-10 month long season? Screw that. Its summer time for a reason. They probably want to spend their time at the cabin or a few mlb games or golf trips or just travel. Not show up in who really cares where for a skills competition and a game of shinny.

Agreed with the 1-8 format. Shouldnt have left that format in the first place.

Problem with a lot of those guys is they don't seem to have a lot of competitive personality suited for a playoff battle. Jake Walman is a mediocre defenseman who doesn't contribute much, but he's able to dial up some hostility being a prick to play against. What a difference it would make if that Mediocre 4 could contribute that kind of competitive energy and just sidetrack an opponent from playing their game properly. That's a big missing ingredient. Tampa had it in Paul, Perry, Bellemare and Maroon.

It's why I don't believe this franchise will win a S.C in my lifetime. It's not that they can't, any team that makes the post season can, but I look at the players and outside of Muzzin, I don't see many I'd want in a foxhole with me. The Leafs like safe, marketable corporate players. It's a corporation and run like one.

The biggest eye opener for me was when Scotty Bowman, yes THAT Scotty Bowman, offered to coach and G.M the team sometime in the early 2000s and the rumor was that he said he would do the job, on one condition, MLSE gives him his budget (pre Cap) at the beginning of the season and then leave him alone.

They refused to allow him that autonomy and declined further interest The guy who tutored under Toe Blake.

The team needs vinegar in the lineup and it is difficult to find. I read that Dubas was interested in Josh Manson and also Josh Anderson before they were traded so I think he wants some strong willed players, but his assets aren't unlimited when they go for it each year with this core but the team doesn't win a round.

I don't care how well they know players, how good he is in the lockeroom or how comfortable they are with him, they need some players, even rentals, that make people a little uncomfortable with losing.

I think that if you held it in a good place for it, in a cool city with lots of family friendly stuff, with guys being healthy, you wouldn’t have too many issues with guys flaking and taking the time to fly private with their families. I’m sure all of them would appreciate an 8-9 day break in February.

Then again maybe not - but it wouldn’t kill to try it once.

I don't think we have the same dynamics post Teachers Pension Fund with resources and funding so I wouldn't put those things together, but this Leafs group does seem to be on the 'nice guy' side of things.

Worst performance by far by the team. Not sharp or focussed. Lack of effort and discipline.

Hard to blame a few when so many sucked so bad. Let’s start with the highest paid. Marner and Nylander played uninspired all night. Tavares looked slow. Bunting, Kerfoot, and Engvall were all bad. Simmonds, Rielly, and Benn were totally ineffective bordering on incompetent.

The PP was less than ineffective, it was brutal. For the love of god please get Rielly off that first PP and put in someone who can shoot. Sandin or Lily would be better.

The good? Only Samsonov and Kampf. It was a bad game but only one game. They better put in a better effort against Boston.

You're telling me no one in the AHL is able to come up and play meaningful minutes in place of Wayne Simmonds?
I hope to god he gets no ice time during the playoffs.

Seriously. Sit the guy down. Tell him he can finish the year with the Marlies or hang em up.

Very much need a top 6 forward. An injury away from Kerfoot or Engvall in the top six. Yuck.

If Keefe played Timmins instead of Benn, do we not see that early penalty in the 2nd period and that 5v3 for Detroit? It's like the butterfly effect because if Benn never plays and no penalty is taken, which means no 5v3, and Detroit doesn't score when it was 5v4.

Now the fact that Fabbri kicked Kerfoot's stick away and should have got a penalty and it wasn't called, that was another missed call by the refs tonight.

Didn't have it tonight .. it happens. Definitely missed Matthews. Tired legs second back to back in the last week with travel. They tried to grind it out but just couldn't quite get there.

Samsonov was a bright spot.

Kerfoot is the goat after that dumb PK decision but you need more than 1 goal to win usually.

Love McMann's game though, he's earned more time.

Give them some fire for Boston on Saturday. Hope Matthews' is back but really the standings are what they are so health matters.

First loss against Detroit in 9 games (5 years!) in regulation.
I liked McMann too..... I mean Michael Mann, the director.

I wonder if Tavares will be next to take a 1 week holiday. He looks like he's low on batteries.
Tavares is elite on the PP and in the slot...basically he's elite as long as he's standing still.

Luckily, skating on ice is his only weakness.
