I mean without Matthews the team has fared well in the past so I wouldn't let these last two games mean anything .. there's adjustment time. Second half of a back to back is tough. Couldn't grind it out tonight.

I definitely agree that we didn't have enough firepower tonight. Marner looks a little lost offensively without his boi on the PP tbh.

Gotta dump Kerfoot (3.5 AAV) and get an upgrade in the top 6 (50% to 75% retained)

XXX-Matthews-Nylander
Bunting-Tavares-Marner (GTA line)
Engvall-Kampf-Jankrok
Zar-Holmberg-Hunt/Robertson (if he is back)

The Leafs have been speed-bagging the Wings for the better part of a decade, it was bound to happen sometime.

But yet again it’s January 12th, the Metro is tighter than a duck’s ass and the ASG that no one likes is two weeks away.

Boston: 68
Toronto: 59
Tampa: 51
Everyone else: 42 or less

Does that look set to you? Because to me it looks about set…on January 12th, again.

  1. kill the asg
  2. get rid of the divisional playoff format. one thru 8 seeding in each conference.

It's remarkable just how thin that forward group looks when you take one name out of it.

They need Matthews back, but they also need their mojo back - that felt like an early season performance again tonight, alongside the Seattle embarrassment last week.

Completely different team. Especially on the PP.

The Leafs seem to get a lot of those explicitly non offensive utility guys who can skate and keep the flow of a game going and keep things relatively safe defensively but have no scoring touch. It's a lot of Todd Warriner's.
Think that’s have something to do with no money to sign players who actually can put the puck in the net.

Calle is fine with JT and MM
Bunting is fine with AM and Willie
Engvall is fine for what he brings
But Kerfoot needs to go. His 3.5mil caphit is such a waste

Also, Keefe is a moron for playing Simmonds and Benn. There was absolutely no reason to change up a winning lineup especially when Timmins has been excellent.
Always seems to anger people when you criticize him, but Wayne Simmonds isn't an NHLer anymore.

Only time you notice him is when he's feeding someone his knuckles or taking a boneheaded penalty. Offers nothing else.

Todd Warriner had better offensive output than these guys.

Sheldon Keefe, once again chooses to make the stupid choice to pull the goalie BEFORE he has the puck stop doing that.

Get the puck THEN pull the goalie It's stupid to do it the other way

We can't win them all, especially on back to backs! Matthews better recover soon!

Now, this game showed to me that our Leafs need upgrades on Engvall and Kerfoot for sure. These two provide nothing of value to the team. And please, no more Simmonds, he is done, and just takes stupid penalties.

If I'm Timmins, I quietly ask to be waived or traded. After being acquired, it took ages before he was allowed to prove himself by being inserted into the lineup. Once given a chance, he then proved himself worthy of a full time job, and now gets sat down by Keefe. Unacceptable IMHO.

On to the Boston game. The Bruins will be in a grumpy mood Saturday night having lost tonight to the Krack Heads. Have they lost 2 games in a row all season???

1. Yes…yessssssss!

But oh wait, it’ll never happen. At the very least keep it old school: No full league representation, fastest skater, accuracy, hardest shot, puck control relay and the breakaway showdown. No more of this meme shit for Generation Screen since age three.

I’ve said several times to put that shit in like the last week of July so guys have recovered, it’s warm everywhere and it gets eyes on the league when Sportsnet or whatever people in Canada watch these days isn’t just 47 different baseball highlights. Give the boys a week off to take the wife and kids to Aruba or whatever.

2. Once again yes. Wildcard seeding is stupid unless there’s a playoff for it, which the other league that has wild card seeding does. Whoever thought of this is still working for the league I bet.

We’re gonna get five of the top six from the Metro - but definitely Carolina, Washington and the Rangers, and Boston-Toronto-Tampa. I am far from bullish on Jersey, they’re the new Smurfs.

The only Metro team that inspires fear in a seven game banger is the Canes, and Leafs will once again be playing Tampa.

It's why I'm still not confident in the bottom 6 come playoff time. Kerfoot, Engvall, ZAR, Jarnkrok. I expect little to no offense out of these guys in a series

We definitely need more scoring come the TDL

Problem with a lot of those guys is they don't seem to have a lot of competitive personality suited for a playoff battle. Jake Walman is a mediocre defenseman who doesn't contribute much, but he's able to dial up some hostility being a prick to play against. What a difference it would make if that Mediocre 4 could contribute that kind of competitive energy and just sidetrack an opponent from playing their game properly. That's a big missing ingredient. Tampa had it in Paul, Perry, Bellemare and Maroon.

'scuse me I hope I'm not botherin ya, but theres one more thing

I know you think we got problems, but can you imagine if the Leafs had to deal with this;

OEL has 4 1/2 years and more than $37 million still owed to him. With the Coyotes’ retained salary, Ekman-Larsson’s annual salary-cap charge in Vancouver is $7.26 million through the 2026-27 season. By gross salary, he is the highest-paid Canuck.

that reminds me! Bobby McMann earned himself another game and hopefully some meaningful minutes on Saturday

getting his first in the Gah-den!

That’s one thing I noticed about McMann.. he had that bit of extra fight for the puck
