Maybe we should just trade everyone for a bunch of solid pieces but not quite as high end, become somewhat like the recent expansion teams or something. They seem to be doing much better than us.
And that's kinda the going rate for a guy like Matthews: Beyond the draft pick package (2 1sts and a 2nd maybe?) you get an exellent young prospect (#1 or #2 on that team's list in THN future watch) and a middle-six good-for-the-culture kind of young guy who may or may not have upside, like a Connor Brown type who's like 23-24.

Very eerie how similar this is to the Raptors 2018 playoffs before the big changes made that lead to the championship a year later. Won the first round, in shaky fashion, in 6 games. Then got swept by LBJ in the 2nd round as the higher seed. Florida doesn't compare to LeBron's Cavs, but still.

Masai is cut from a different cloth than dubas/shanahan. Masai doesn't give a F when it comes to so called 'loyalty' when it is team results.

I think it's coaching to be honest. There is no "System" for O-zone and D-Zone play that they can automatically do like robots when things are not going their way. Too much freelancing by pretty much everyone out there. You see guys ringing the puck around the boards in the O-zone with nobody on the other side to get after it. Our guys are usually as surprised by the ring around as the other team is. This means Keefe tells them to just "Create" and that they just need to back check on the way out of the zone....that's the extent of it. It took Keefe 8 playoffs games to figure out how to slow down the forecheck with those hail Mary passes up to the blueline....8 friggin games to figure it out.
I think you are bang on.

No structure
No discipline
No consequences

Talent only goes so far, especially when it runs smack into a well executed system.

And was Florida really on a line change? That just adds to the mockery of that play. My god.
Yeah Reinhart was killing time so he just make some random moves which tripped up the leafs. Nyalnder did the same on the leafs 2nd goal

We have tons of guys who can make that play but they just don't

It's sad that the thought over the next few days is the hope we just win and not get swept.

But even then, do the players have the pride to not be an utter embarrassment....again.

Even if they win the next game they just get to come home and lose infront of their fans and family. I will be surprised if they don't get swept now.

He's not going to waive and seriously why the hell should he.
Wanting to win, wanting to be somewhere where he's actually wanted, wanting his legacy to be something other than that of a loser, going somewhere where he can actually play for his next contract.. there are plenty of potential reasons

Maple Leafs face dire odds with NHL teams at 4-197 when trailing 3-0

TSN.ca Staff

Published May 08, 2023 at 08:39 AM ET

The Toronto Maple Leafs find themselves in a 3-0 hole in the second round against the Florida Panthers, and will need to become just the fifth team in NHL history to pull off the reverse sweep if they are to advance.

The Maple Leafs are the 202nd team in history to trail 3-0 entering a Game 4. The previous teams in their situation are just 4-197 when it comes to advancing.

Toronto was the first franchise to erase a 3-0 deficit and win a series, doing so in the 1942 Stanley Cup Final against the Detroit Red Wings. It was another 32 years before the New York Islanders doubled the list, storming back to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1975 quarter-finals.

The other two instances came more recently, with the Philadelphia Flyers stunning the Boston Bruins in the second round of the 2010 playoffs, and the Los Angeles Kings battling back to defeat the San Jose Sharks in the first round of the 2014 playoffs. The Kings went on to win the Stanley Cup three rounds later in 2014, while the Flyers lost to the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2010 Stanley Cup Final.

The Maple Leafs are the first team to fall behind 3-0 in a series in this year's playoffs. Three teams faced 3-0 deficits in the 2022 playoffs, with all three losing Game 4 to be swept.

Following a 3-2 overtime loss on Sunday to the Panthers, Toronto put their sole focus on winning Game 4 on Wednesday to stay alive.

This isn't on one player. The Leafs problems are a combination of stupid management decisions, lack of heart and desire, a fan base that is probably the most annoying bunch in sports (because there's so many Leafs fan). How many GM's have we had? How many coaches have we had? Same f***ing results year after year after year.

Have you watched any other teams in the playoffs? None of them are putting on a shit show like the Leafs. I put most of the blame on the players lack of heart, lack of desire, no fight in them.

IMHO JT has the heart and desire, overpaid, yes but he does show up unlike pretty boys like Marner and Matthews.

How can I like this most a million times?
Leafs wrapped up in those 3 quotes.

You know who needs to blow a gasket? Shanny at the season’s end press conference. He has become so passive in his older years. Last year’s press conference was asinine. He seems like he doesn’t even care.
Shanahan is part of the problem. He needed to blow a gasket five years ago. He's been an awful president and his tenure here will go down as an epic failure.

He's a Red Wing at heart anyway.

I blame the Dubas fan club the most. 3 years of having to sift through conversations with intermittent expected bollocks, win-o-meters, and other hypothetical tripe has been tiring.
quoted for truth.

Nothing pissed me off more than "run it back" crowd led by the pos mirtle on twitter.

actually their presser last year pissed me off more than that. they were talking like they lost in SCF game 7 OT. I wonder if MLSE is still buying the bullshit that is shanaplan with dubas icing on top

That's a bunch of great words but none of it changes a single thing about Tavares, why it makes sense to trade him and why it's not unreasonable to expect him to wave his NTC.

Lol why do i keep coming back and repeating this cyclical violence against myself? I can't even blame Dubas, this team is legit on paper. It has to lay on the shoulders of Keefe and the players themselves.

O'Rielly has been worth every damn penny, so has Acciari and Schenn. We fixed our weak spots, we should be flying, but the core 4 have done nothing this series, the first second round in 20 years and we're down 3-0?

There is no excuses, you will your way to a win in game 2 or 3, instead we have zero killer instinct and we lose again, as sad as it sounds I think these players are not winners, i think they maybe honest to god losers and it might be time for an incredibly loud and polarizing change.

I am no longer bound to anyone on this team, trade anyone if it makes us better as a whole, ANYONE.
