If they lose of Wednesday, I can see them sending a message by firing the stick boy and his BBF after the game or the next day. After seeing this collapse, they should be talking to Treliving and Gallant and preparing what awaits them prior to July 1st.

I thought Kampf and Lafferty played well last night, personally.
Until the OT goal they were our best forwards. Truely sad.

Its not normal tha during most important game of leafs season than leafs 4 th line was by far the best line on the ice...

In this serie, Matthews had good scoring but didn't converted any of those chance and can play with a lot more intensity

We didn't see at all Marner
Nylander played great 20 of 180 and totally trash during 160
Jt we didn't really saw him

The only player of leafs core who really looked like a guy to make everything he can to win the cup is Morgan Rielly

You just cant win anaything that way

Why do you think the core will respond to Gallant’s coaching? They won’t. The core has to be shaken up too. Goal scoring shouldn’t be a problem for this team, but again in crucial playoff games it is a problem this year.

Good gaslighting. Nylander was way better than 20 minutes out of 180 lol.

There also probably isn't a Kawhi to trade for to save the day.
There probably isn't a Kawhi type of talent available for the Leafs to acquire. It has to be an elite two way player who would change the team entirely. Closest paradigm shifting talent possibly available is Sidney Crosby. There's someone focused on winning and focused on the performance of his teammates. But he doesn't have many more seasons left in him.

The QC
Kampf was our best forward last night, and Lafferty scored a goal.
Kampf was easily our most effective forward. He was just moving north and south. Getting pucks in deep and actually recovering or trying to recover them. He was great.

Others dissing Keefe for playing the core too much, I think that is a fools game. I like that he is going down by playing his best players. If he didn't, he would be crucified for not playing them... There was a great quote from NFL coach, I think it was Denis Green... "Can't win with em, can with without em".

Very eerie how similar this is to the Raptors 2018 playoffs before the big changes made that lead to the championship a year later. Won the first round, in shaky fashion, in 6 games. Then got swept by LBJ in the 2nd round as the higher seed. Florida doesn't compare to LeBron's Cavs, but still.
We don't have a DeMar Derozen player that I'd be sad to lose. Trade anyone and everyone if there's a Kawhi Leonard type player out there.

For me, one of the stories that will resonate the most from this game was that I can’t name five players on the Leafs who were worse than Mitch Marner tonight. He created nothing. He constantly turned the puck over (the list could go on and on, really). And yet guess who led all Leafs forwards in ice time? Marner.

It is one of the stories of Sheldon Keefe’s entire NHL coaching career to this point. Ice time is predetermined and good or poor play doesn’t change anything. The common retort to this criticism is that Marner is one of their best players, and Keefe has to play him. But he really doesn’t, particularly when he’s playing so poorly.

It’s a disservice to the players who are actually playing well. If you don’t think, say, Jarnkrok could have taken some of those minutes and also done nothing with them other than simply not turn the puck over, I’m not sure what to tell you.

On principle alone, Keefe can’t trot players out there for big minutes when they are underperforming and essentially wilting under the weight of the moment. We’ve had this conversation for years now under this coach. It’s not just about this one game. It’s about accountability throughout the season and playoffs. He can’t simply throw his hands up in the air and say, “Marner is a good player, and we can never bench him because you never know… Maybe he’ll snap out of it!”

Clearly, Keefe is not going to change, and it’s disappointing — and frustrating — to watch it play out over and over again.

Contrast all of this to Cooper who benched Kucherov, Stamkos and Point for an entire period because they were playing like dogshit. When asked about it, he directly said, "I played the guys who I felt gave us the best chance to win." That is how you send a message.

Marner should have sat the entire second period save for maybe a few fourth line shifts to see if he could dig his head out of his ass and Nylander should have moved up. Earn your damn minutes kid.

It really makes you wonder what this core might look like with a stricter coach like Quenneville, Gallant or Laviolette. One thing's for certain, Keefe should be the first domino that falls whenever the season ends. He's had enough chances but has basically ridden regular season success with 100 point players.

That is just the start. You give your new coach and GM the most time possible to decide the way forward. You gotta move Matty and Nylander prior to the draft if their ask is unreasonable.

Do you give Matty a blank cheque after seeing his sleep through the season and playoffs or if he has a chronic wrist injury?? I do not. Sorry, other than his 60 goal season, he's underperformed that contract.

Dude, it is the same old song and dance for 5 straight years under Dubas. Not 3 loses to the f***ing 8th seed.
The seed doesn’t matter. They had basically the same record as the Leafs since Christmas. The difference is one team was called out publicly by Keith Tkachuk as being too soft.

Maybe Chelios will call out Matthews

Definitely not the hole you want to be in. I'm an outsider and it's improbable but a 4 game win streak isn't out of the question. Let's see.

How do you think the Panthers will do against the winner of NJ and Carolina ?? No way should these Leafs be embarrassed by this Panthers team. They have no heart or thought mission accomplished, we won a round.

There's no need to wonder. We already had that in Babcock and the players tuned him out. Didn't work with a strict coach, didn't work with a buddy-buddy coach... start looking at the common denominator.

The Leafs missed Knies yesterday, he may have been what they needed the last 2 games which were lost by 1 goal.

How much more do you get for Matthews?

And, almost 5 million more in cap space.

Yes, we know Matthews averages 51 goals over 82 games.
But he is injury prone.

The marner-Matthews combination has had this type of collapse before in the playoffs.

Could a different coach give them heart?
