Friedman explains what happens here 12:00

This is explained by Friedman here at 12:00 mins in. Apparently it was an automated system and because the Marlies were called up and Alex Nylander alphabetically comes before William it was an easy error to make. Considering the Marlies were just called up this week. Probably didn’t even expect something like that could happen.

According to Hockey Canada. If the player was there at the start of the game but not on the sheet, they are to be added to the sheet and can continue.

Where he can’t be added is if he’s not on the sheet and not there by the start of the 2nd period.

NHL rules might be different.

NHL rules are different.

At least they were in 2002, when the Leafs were caught with a lineup error. Ahead of game 5 of the first round series against the Islanders, Pat Quinn accidentally put an injured Mikael Renberg on the lineup sheet, instead of Robert Reichel.

The Islanders caught it, but the Leafs and the officials didn't. Once the puck was dropped, the Islanders quickly flagged it to the referees at the first stoppage - who ejected Reichel from the game.

Pat Quinn's lineup card blunder.

Even if it's digital, it shows how careless the team is. No one looked at the lineup after and realized not only is it a different number, but a different player?

The Leafs caught a break in that the refs caught it. I'm sure if Ottawa caught it instead, they'd have waited for the game to start and then brought it up and the Leafs would have been playing without William Nylander.

The chaos doesn't end there though, as Alex Nylander was actually in the building watching the game with his dad. So either the Leafs play with 11 forwards or tell him to get down to the dressing room. He'd be playing a playoff game maybe after chugging a few beers.

Might as well just get rid of Alex as he won’t be used anyway. Get him off the database

I thought it was a written process but I’m a lot less concerned once I found out about the automation. Yes it’s an error but it’s something they will learn from for sure and won’t do again

And they just called up the Mariles… and in alphabetical order, Alex would show up first.

According to Kypreos and Berube as soon as Berube entered the wrong Nylander he contacted the league. It was the first time both Nylanders were in the system since the playoffs started.

It wasn’t like what we being reported where the officials found it.

Wow, I wouldn't do that even to the Senators.

Good to know, we owe them an underhanded disservice.

Oh yeah, JT lol.

It all comes out in the wash.

Pretty sure we had lineup errors during the entirety of the Horachek era tbh
