Hell no. If we're trading Pulock to the Leafs, it's in a package for JVR.

The Isles are looking to compete right now.

"trade can be made during or after the season prior to expansion draft"

probably works better for the isles, especially if they know they have to expose pulock/dehann.

also hamonic, not pulock gets the JVR talks going. 11goals, thats 5 more than any isle.

What defines being a top pairng defenceman in your eyes?

Are Kyle Wood, Jordan Subban, and Alexandre Carrier all gonna be top pairing dman aswell? Cause they have similar ppg to Nielsen in the AHL

Are Xavier Ouellet, Matthew Benning, Markus Nutivaara gonna be top pairing dman aswell? Cause they have a similar +/- to Carrick.

Also, +/- is a trash stat

Kyle wood looks promising but c'mon subban and carrier?
carrier is 5'10/170 and subban is 5'9/175. Andrew Nielsen is 6'3/210

agreed about +/-

snows hands are probably tied until ledecky finds his team president so I think isles are going to finish season status quo unless said prez is hired this season.

Amazing

Wonder if Pulock would have top pairing potential if he played for the marlies

So, will the Leafs have 4 or 5 top pairings in the NHL?

wtf did I just read?

Potential is the key word.

I'm sure not all of these guys will be top pairing defenseman.

But they all have at least a hint of potential to be great defensemen in the NHL.

Should everything fall perfectly into place for these players, they may possibly be top pairing defensemen.

Better?

Islanders would sooner give up De Haan then Pulock! Islanders could move De Haan and prospect Dal Colle. Snow has been trying to find a taker for Kulemin all season but with his contract he would have to make it sweet for another team to bite. Halak most likely to be dealt at The Deadline.

Islanders need Bite and Size ! Stupid of Snow to not pay The Heart of Islanders in Martin 27yrs old just (4 year deal) to pay Chimer a 37 year old (2 year Deal) Islanders still looking for Heartbeat of Team!

De Haan , Dal Colle, 3rd rd pick to Leafs for JVR!

Gerard Gallant head coach, Travis Green assistant coach, Ken Morrow defensive coach.

Gm Doug Maclean, Bryan Trottier President

Rather keep Pulock. we have our own Kapanen-level boom or bust guy already in Ho-Sang, who is developing very nicely.

This is a well thought out idea - kudos to OP.

Frankly, I would do this now from NYI's perspective. I would imagine it is premature from TOR's perspective. Until Pulock gets back on the ice and shows something, I don't think he has a whole lot of value at this point.

I'm not even certain that Pulock is taken in the expansion draft if he's left exposed. de Haan or Pelech are as likely if not more likely to be chosen from NYI if either are not traded and left unprotected.

Isles have Barzal, Ho-Sang, Dal Colle, Beau, Bellows in the prospect pipeline for wingers... no real need for another winger especially at the expense of a guy like Pulock.

Really?

Nielsen is barely 20 years old and leads marlies defensemen in scoring with 14 points in 20 games. That's an insane pace for a AHL rookie. All after tearing up the whl in scoring. Also well known for his defensive play.

Travis Dermott is 19 years old and known as an a two way, steady defenseman. 5 points in 8 games as an AHL rookie indicates a great transition. Great rusher, and great leader in Erie in the OHL last season.

Connor Carrick leads the leafs in +/- and definitely has top pairing potential. Known for offense, he's very very steady as well.

Valiev is a huge dark horse for top pairing nhler.

You know what legit top pairing potential is right?

Nielsen and Dermott have top 4 potential with the slight chance of top pairing.

You are saying Carrick has top pairing potential because he leads in +/- LOL. We'd be lucky if he turns into a #4.

And every defence prospect is a dark horse for top pairing potential.

So essentially, any defenseman who is relatively good has top pairing potential?

That's not how it works.

I think I'd do this.

NYI has Hamonic and Boychuk on the right side long term and lack a right handed goal scoring forward throughout the entire organization, not just in the prospect pool.

If I'm NYI, I'd try to expand this to JvR as well, but that is a discussion for another day.

I like Pulock as a prospect but I don't like how he has to be protected.
Any deal from a Leafs perspective would technically include Carrick for all intents and purposes because that would mean he loses his protection spot.

After the expansion draft, I'd be willing to look at a JVR for Pulock+ deal.

I like the idea of deals based around Kasperi and Pulock and JVR for Pulock+

What would be a good addition from the Isles in a JVR swap?

It would have to be pretty good to mitigate the fact that we'd have to use a protection spot on an unproven player.

Yeah. Aside from the value, which i don't think is in the right range in the first place...this. The Islanders have a bunch of forward prospects at various points in their pipeline already.

Maybe if it was something around Pulock for JVR i could see it having some appeal for the Isles who would do well to keep Tavares happy with a quality right now winger to play with.

Well, we've got one poster who insists that Markus Nutivaara is the best young blueliner in the Jackets organization (and yes, he stuck to that even after we reminded him of Werenski's existence), so... ;)

thats pretty much like the leafs thinking they can get a top 4 RHD by trading kapanen.

hamonic would need to be involved.

Why do the leafs need another "potential" guy?

Dermott
Nielsen
Carrick

And maybe a couple others all have legit top pairing potential.

In addition, there's a good chance we have a top 10 pick in June to draft said our own top pairing defender.

I've never been a huge Kapanen fan, but he looks more and more like a legit top 6 winger.

I'd bet on Kapanen being a successful top 6 winger way before I bet on pulock being a top pairing defender

Since the Leafs are in a position to protect 4 Dman in the draft, can you protect 5?, they should be able to make a deal to trade for another teams "4th" Dman who can only protect 3 Dman in the draft.

Regarding the trade. Might be fair. Don't know why so many folks are down on Kapanen. He was drafted 22nd in 2014. Look at all the other draftees from 2014. His productivity and his playing time in a professional league AHL would indicate his in the top 10 maybe in top 5 in his class.

20 years old playing in the AHL, he's doing just fine.

Kapanen is gonna be a top line player in the nhl. Dude is a beast.

Yes, I would trade him for a #2-#3RD, but does Pulock have that kind of potential?
