Based on the efficacy of his November off, Auston can sit out weeks and weeks and this injury won't get better or his performance won't improve. Based on how banged up he was to finish the season and how he wasn't ready to go at first preseason scrimmage months later, I'm not sure we can expect him to be healthy if he came back months from now without surgical intervention on whatever it is.

Why not just stop being a distraction and go on IR or even LTIR?

You can bet your ass that he won’t go on LTIR because he wants to play in that ridiculous money grab called the 4 nations cup.
