Has anyone listened to this? Plenty of good points brought up by a very knowledgeable, experienced NHL executive. Definitely brought me back down to earth and settled me down. The Leafs ARE a good team and their A-game, when on, is among the best in the league. Have a listen to this and remind yourselves where we've been and where we are now. 2 shit games recently doesn't mean anything. We ARE contenders and we will get over this slump quick. It's going to be a fun second half.

I heard him on the Good Show this morning. The most consequential thing from that interview was him saying he's heard that Sandin's injury is more serious than reported and he may not be available this season.

Had a lot of good incite, insider information, and speculation on what Dubas should do at the deadline.

Paraphrasing:

-The price for Ekholm is pretty big: a 1st in 2022, and 2 of your top 4 best prospects (I'm not sure Toronto has 4).

-Kerfoot has very little appeal in a trade deal.

-The cap situation makes the trade deadline extremely challenging. Don't expect a splash move.

-Thinks Toronto should get a depth D. You need more than 6 to go deep. More like 9 to have enough insurance. Sandin was part of the same conversation. Doesn't expect Sandin to return this season.

- Likes Dubas. He's very honest. Likes many of his offseason signings and moves.

-Likes Jack Campbell a lot. Thinks he could be an NHL starter.

Yea...I wasn't expecting that. If that is in fact the situation, I'm surprised Dubas traded Lehtonen away.. unless he's got something bigger up his sleeve.

Some fans on this board are going to get a reality check in terms of what some of our players are worth. Just gotta hope teams are selling at 50 cents on the dollar.

Agrees with Boudreau that you can never have enough depth on D. Ekholm and Forsberg/Granlund for ??? Thinks it will take Nylander to get Forsberg. Said this when the Forsberg rumour started.

Would take some onions to do Nylander+ for Ekholm and Forsberg

I am surprised he knows anything about Sandin's injury or Kerfoot's value TBH. Even if he was an assistant GM with the Kings, I highly doubt he has that information about any particular organization (besides the Kings) to this extent unless we have a major leak in the organization... I highly doubt the Leafs want people to know a whole lot about Sandin's injury or Kerfoot's value (if it is low anyways).

I would also say that I doubt the Leafs move Lehtonen, even as a courtesy, if Sandin was out for the rest of the year. Even if they like Marincin and Rosen a lot, I would imagine they wouldn't move Lehtonen without Sandin back at some point.

Seems like speculation TBH.

Hopefully he's not just being a "nice guy" again because he felt bad that Lehtonen wasn't playing.

Why come out and say something about Sandin if he did not have some kind of inside information ??? The guy seems to know what he is talking about in general. Load up on D. Will take Nylander to get Forsberg. Kerfoot is not worth much. Jumbo and Simmonds signed here to win a Cup.

It would take Nylander for Forsberg. I would do it if Nashville would. There is extra cap space for now ( $900,000) Then you need to re-sign Forsberg after next year. Offensively its a wash, defensively Forsberg is better,Nylander is 2 years younger, consistency of game Forsberg. Darn close Hockey trade. Nashville would want a sweetener for the cap saving and that’s the cost. Willy would be their center not winger. I’d add dermott and a first this year’s to do it if they added Borowiecki or Benning. There is potential for a block buster with Nashville that helps both teams.

During a time of adversity (especially before the trade deadline) some fans hope for a home run NHLer. I can be guilty of it at times too. The reality of the salary cap situation is always sobering though. I don't know if there is a Coleman/Goodrow like trade to make. Our 1st might not get us any big fish.

Not to be a total downer. Futa had many good things to say about TOR's roster. That fact that many holes (leadership, defense, toughness) was addressed in the offseason is a good thing.

I'd try to get Ekholm included in the trade by adding a 1st and Lily.

Hard to believe the media never addressed this much. Big blow to the Leafs if they planned in using him as depth or trade bait.

I wonder why that Lehtonen trade was made then. We'll see...

He will be roasted by some people if the Leafs lose a playoff game with or without Marincin.

Sure but he will be roasted by 99% of Leaf fans if they see Marty dress ;)

They might step off the ledge if they win but it will only last to the next time Marty is exploited.

Personally i think he is over rated. Depth defense with jam, block shots, scrap a bit when needed is what i want. Doesn’t mean I’m against anyone wanting Ekholm. I’m completely for spending assets to contend strongly. Assets win cups relinquished properly. I think it’s the proper time to jump on going for it. I know i am lowering my sights on Boro and Benning to get Forsberg.

If we moved Rielly/Nylander to Nashville with plus’s it would change the dynamic of the team beyond what anybody seen coming.
I know what i would want for Nylander and Rielly from Nashville. It would be a hockey trade that we get better defensively is the bones of it.
$12,000,000 i would expose right there as long as Forsberg is involved. All the other intricate stuff beyond that I wouldn’t even guess at. Forsberg/Ekholm+.... Rielly/Nylander +
That would be a huge hockey trade. Nylander being 2 years younger fits into the rebuild and he gets to play #1 center there.

Kyle would have to have the biggest onions to make such a deal during the seaon. You are talking a trade in the Alomar/Carter for Fernandez/McGriff deal and those get made in the off season but it would sure be exciting if they pulled off something that big.
