This is a high floor, low ceiling type of hire imo. They don’t have their 1st rounders the next 2 years, so they want to be in the hunt for a playoff spot. Hiller can get a team there… not sure there’s more upside after that.

I’d take him over Eakins or Roy.

Pavelski would have been too risky, I would of went with Woodcroft.

I would have went Pavelski with good assistant coaches.

This is a mediocre retread.

Kings fans should be more upset at Doughty who didn't want his team to rebuild. They had to go out get players by trading all their top assets. They should be upset at their scouts who scoundered like 100 picks ..Hiller was constantly given aging team with very little to work with

Once that doesn’t happen - it’s this kinda reaction.

I like some of the things I have heard already:
Preaches defense
Strong possession focus
PP coach - with success
Knows the market
34/88 are obviously fine with it.

Will be interested to see if he shakes up the rest of the bench. Should be a fun PC. Simmons: I talked to 20 executives who think this hire is crap - what do you say to that?

I love the Leafs, but really dislike a large % of our fanbase.

This is his only full season as coach.

The fewest high danger chances against, by a fair bit.

Looks like offensively, they were fine, but they were arguably the best in the league defensively.

Don't watch much LA, so someone explaining why he sucks would be great.

Hiller somehow had them playing .630+ hockey for 2 seasons.

People are mostly upset that it was very random with what we've known of the names involved. The more you look into it the more it makes some form of sense.

I do think the 1-3-1 system he had was a big point of contention. Players weren't liking it.

This and his work on the PP are reasons to be excited about.

You have to believe that our team is far more talented than the Kings team. These numbers should be even better with a good roster.

I live a few km's from the border and had an office downtown for over a decade. It can take 35-40 min before rush hour and 90 minutes in it. Other than there being a border crossing, where he lived wasnt really the issue, it was more that he mailed it in and didn't really try to build a culture for the club. He appeared to spend less time coaching and building than any before him, so the Point Roberts living situation just compounded it all.

Chayka has a plan and he’s executing the plan and he’s doing what he was hired to do.
No one knows how it’ll turn out, but Hillier has experience coaching in Toronto, played the game, has experience as a HC. Obviously he interviewed well and was hired.

Honestly, this would not surprise me. Rogers made a tons of cuts to their offices and will be doing it with the Leafs. Already made cuts to the Sports Science staff on the team last year or maybe before that.

Heard Ed Rogers only cares about the Blue Jays.

The whining comes from the fact he isn't a big, juicy name. They don't know anything about him.
