Don't love it personally, he was an assistant back in the Babcock days and it's always a tough jump from assistant to HC with the same group (and he's have experience with Nylander and Matthews). Then his record in LA was good, but they never could overcome that first round, which is familiar.

Assistant under both Trotz, McLellan and Babs is interesting though

It's a good way of looking at it. Limited HC experience but plenty under some big coaching names.

His 1-3-1 system in LA was heavily criticized and I hope we don't see it here.

Toronto is not a popular destination for players or gm/coaches

Lots of negatives

I disagree. Regardless of the past, there are only a handful of these jobs available every year and there are always younger guys pushing from the bottom. Can't sleep on any team. Plus every one of them knows that if they finally win here, they will be gods.

So irritating how they act like they know shit, but they don't know anything. Just don't take it too seriously.
I never said I knew anything on the coaching front. I just thought it would be Cassidy because it made the most sense for what the Leafs want to do - i.e., win now - relative to a guy like Pavelski. Hillier was certainly not on the bingo card.

After Carle said no there weren't any good candidates really, maybe other then Cassidy. I don't think it's a great hire but there weren't gonna find someone out of nowhere.

Just keep an open mind and if he doesn't do well fire him the second a good coach becomes available before another team does.

Interesting hire, the people criticizing it literally have no idea who the guy is, which is typical.

During the 2024 and 2025 seasons he coached one of the best defensive teams in the league, so there's that.

I'm intrigued, I'm interested what he's going to say is his approach. Not against this at all.
What did him in was they couldn’t defend against the oilers and the oilers special teams in the playoffs was just too much for them to overcome

People like to judge the book just looking at the cover. Weird mentality really. Maybe he is good, maybe he is not but lets stop overreacting like teenagers 😤
