Anyways how did Ovechkin score all those goals, were teams just unaware he was a good goal scorer?

When they had Backstrom and Oshie, there was a ton of weapons on that PP, during their cup win, Ovechkin was more of a distraction that lead to the others scoring goals but then on occasion he would capitalize.

I think one of Toronto's best moves in the off-season would be finding a way to move on from Rielly and somehow getting Chychrun in.

Marner has scored 35+
Tavares 40+
Nylander 40+

Hell even Rielly scored 20+ which is more than Carlson ever scored. It's just excuses, McDavid went 2ppg in the playoffs, didn't he get doubled? Greats perform and Matthews never has, like the rest of them.

I've noticed this for years. For a guy his age, he looks strung out all the time. This is coming from a guy who partied very hard in his 20's and is not a professional athlete at the top of his game, I never looked this bad. The thing is, wouldn't MLSEL have some indication that this was the case? Which makes me wonder, does he have other health concerns, because yeah, dude looks like a zombie.

When you get hurt a lot, and there's enormous amount of pressure to return asap, the doctors might prescribe more than acupunture and tylenol.

Detroit didn't wing shit until Yzerman was 31, or 32.

Ovechkin didn't win until he was about the same age as Yzerman.

Mcdavid is a year older then Matthews where is his ring?

Mario did it a little quicker but even he took 7 or 8 years

Yes you get guys that win early like Sid, Towes and Roy but that's EXTREMELY rare.

Hyman and Kreider scored 50, doesn’t make them relevant in a conversation about players that are a threat from the point. 90% of Rielly’s goals were from pinches into the circles, he’s not a relevant threat from the point. McDavid gets double teamed, that’s how Bouchard puts up more than Rielly’s career playoff totals in a single run.

Both of those guys have outscored Matthews in the playoffs btw.

I guess Matthews needs other 50 goal scorers for him to have any success? Poor guy only has 2 40 goal scorers :(.

But if he needs so much help to do anything why does he want to be the highest paid player in the league?

It could be a 0 goal scorer as long as that point shot generates rebounds. If you’re getting double teamed the opposite point is the only safe place to go with the puck, if you don’t have an option that can force the puck on net quickly and consistently from there, you can’t punish the double coverage being out of position.

The only series we looked good offensively we were forcing the high tip which made Marner temporarily dangerous from distance and it dismantled Vasi, I don’t understand how this is a remotely controversial take.

There was no cap back then so they could afford to add studs. The Leafs do not have that luxury because the core 4 are sucking up 51% of the cap.

So McDavid turns Hyman into Matthews, but Matthews can't turn Nylander and JT into Nylander and JT?

Again, if that's the case and Matthews needs SO much help, why does he insist on getting paid like McDavid?
