I liked Galchenyuk with Matthews Marner.
I’d do

Gal-Matthew’s-Marner
Foligno-Kerfoot-Nylander
Mik-Engval-Hyman (huge fan of this line before)
Thornton-Spezza-Simmonds

Rielly-Brodie
Muzz-Holl
Sandin-Bogo

G is the hardest. I hate back to backs and in the playoffs they really shouldn’t be a thing. I’d probably still go Campbell though

Assuming Foligno is ok, we need to balance our top 2 lines and flip Galch and Hyman. Give me the following...

Galchenyuk-Matthews-Marner
Hyman-Foligno-Nylander
Engvall-Kerfoot-Mikheyev
Simmonds-Nash-Spezza

I think that bolsters the 2nd line and helps them out 5 on 5, while leaving a strong 1st line and a balanced 3rd line.

Play the Foligno-Nash-Hyman line in soft minutes to let them get their feet under them coming back from injury. They've all seemed to be playing at like 70% of what I expect from them in the playoffs, they're clearly banged up but I want them to start building chemistry in case we need to put that unit together to cover a hot line next round. Nylander's playing a good enough two-way game that it makes sense to reward him without getting burned, plus that should give Matthews more time in the offensive zone where he doesn't have to carry the puck and can find the soft spots. Getting another shooing threat on that line doesn't hurt either.

If/when Tavares comes back, he replaces Nash and can take his time getting back to 100% playing a slower netfront grinding game if his knee is an issue.

If there is one thing to criticize Keefe about, it's Nylander's ice time. The guy is absolutely flying out there and a threat every shift and he's only playing 16-17 mins and on the second unit. It's like we're purposely trying to keep the game close.

Blow that shit wide open, we don't have Tavares and Foligno right now so no excuse why a forward who would easily be the Habs best if he was on the Habs is playing 17 minutes.

Robertson won’t suit up for Toronto again this season unless it’s an emergency situation. He’s at or near the games played threshold to burn a year off his ELC

I don't think the Leafs really give a shit about the ELC. If they feel he's ready to make a contribution to the team, he'll play.

We burnt Nylander's ELC on a wasted season the year we drafted Matthews.

Willy needs more support on his line, with JT out. I'd give him Hyman back and play Foligno in between them if he's healthy. I think that gives Toronto's top 6 the most balance.

That’s mostly because he doesn’t play with Matthews. I think we’re better off keeping them separate 5 on 5. I’d like to see him swapped for Thornton on the power play though.

But Robertson isn’t ready. Why burn ELC years when a player isn’t NHL ready? Abhorrent cap management

Burning an ELC year isn't necessarily a bad thing. If we didn't burn Nylander's ELC we'd be worse off cap-wise with all 3 of Matthews Marner and Nylander up for contracts at the same time. If we burned one of Marner's ELC years we'd have him locked up 5x7ish instead of 6x11. Robertson tops out at a 2-3 mil RFA deal in 2 years of 3rd line duty probably, that could turn into a 5+ RFA deal if he gets top offensive minutes in year 3.

I think Robertson plays with Tavares & Nylander next year on a sheltered scoring line. Our 3rd line is expected to do some shutdown duty imo

Maybe Keefe will play it differently, but I'm expecting something similar to what Brown, Kapanen and Johnsson went through. Mostly 3rd/4th line minutes with handfuls of games in the top-6 to cover an injury or mix things up if they go cold, then more responsibility in year 3.

Vasilevskiy played every single game last year in the playoffs. I went back just a single year and you're already wrong.

I do stand corrected, it has happened a few times. Personally I think that the stats of goalies on back to backs are significantly worse when the same goalie plays both games, fact check me there if you wish but im pretty sure that is the case.

I dont personally have much faith in Andersen but I feel like we should give him the shortest of leashes but start in game 4. We've also seen how resting Campbell has allowed him to play better.

Hyman - Matthews - Marner
Foligno - Kerfoot - Nylander
Chucky - Engvall - Mikayev
Spezza - Brooks - Simmonds

If Foligno can't play tomorrow,

Hyman - Matthews - Marner
Chucky - Kerfoot - Nylander
Simmonds - Engvall - Mikayev
Spezza - Nash - Thornton (not sure if brooks can play wing)

As for D, I dunno if they want to swap out one of Bogo / Sandin for Dermott to keep one of them fresh, I would also put Campbell back in net, hes played well and every other team has/will played their starter in b2b.

I'm 90% sure Campbell is starting but I'm bracing to see Andersen in the net. If he is, I'll try to have as much faith as possible in him and hope we're rewarded like when Hutchinson saw games this season and did surprisingly well.

He couldn't play tonight, I'd give Foligno tomorrow off too...let him heal and 4 days off should help what ails. We'll need him later on, and we won the 3rd.

Galch Matthews Marner
Hyman Kerfoot Nylander
Mikky Nash Engvall
Brooks Spezza Simmonds

Continue the D as is

Tomorrow morn Keefe walks up to Jack and says, 'no bs, are you physically/mentally good to go tonight?' If yes, you play him.

At the same time though, if he feels good, a win in game 4 likely puts this series out of reach for Montreal. Anything is possible, but 3 games in a row for Mtl is quite a mountain.

Fair point, I'm just thinking that we can win again without him and I fear an injured player is more likely to tweak the injury when they go all out as they do in the playoffs.

For the love of all that is holy please put Jumbo in the stands. It is so painful watching him lumber up the ice and kill offence
