I'd like to remind everyone that the season is 82 games. The season doesn't depend on this one game to know if we're cup contenders or bottom dwellers.
If they aren't cup contenders yet than what the hell have they been doing?I'd like to remind everyone that the season is 82 games. The season doesn't depend on this one game to know if we're cup contenders or bottom dwellers.

He's saying to use the opening game as a judgement for itIf they aren't cup contenders yet than what the hell have they been doing?
We're Cup contenders.
But how else could the Dubas haters make this thread about Dubas like every single other thread if they can't complain then?I'd like to remind everyone that the season is 82 games. The season doesn't depend on this one game to know if we're cup contenders or bottom dwellers.
"Other then the 4 forwards" well you just intentionally excluded the answer. You know what it is. The defense is also not bad. Teams have won cups before without Cale Makar or Victor Hedman! If you want to try and say the team isn't a contender....I might disagree with you but I can respect the opinion. If you are saying they aren't good? Off your rocker. With this goaltending? Also, can you please genuinely answer what makes this team good? Other than the 4 forwards, what do we really have? I still think we have same issues as before, no depth scoring. And the D is one year older and slower. Don't see a Cale Makar or a Victor Hedman on it. So enlighten me, what makes this team a Stanley Cup contender? What do you guys see?

Love how Dubas has found a loop hole and by using a hyphen gets to play 5 guys on 4th line. Brilliant. Now that is using the cap wizard talents.

TBDThe Leafs have:
1. The best group of elite forwards in hockey
2. one of the best dcorps in hockey
3. solid if unspectacular forward depth
4. below average goaltending
Maybe we should call it the DashKam(pf) Line.
I'm with you. I don't see how anyone could not see this team as a contender regardless of tomorrow nights game.We were contenders last year, and I believe we improved in all 3 areas - forwards, defence and goaltending.
Yes, goaltending. I really like what I've seen from Murray. I think he can be consistently mediocre, and that's all Kuemper ever really has been.
This is the best Leaf team in the Matthews era.

Based on the preseason, I am hopeful that our goaltending will be better than last season, and above average in comparison to the rest of the league. The Leafs have:

3. solid if unspectacular forward depth

Softer, aging d and/or reclamation projects, same core that can't get it done year after year, and a coach who is about as good as the team in the playoffsWe were contenders last year, and I believe we improved in all 3 areas - forwards, defence and goaltending.

This is the best Leaf team in the Matthews era. It's younger, it's faster, it's healthier, and I think it's hungrier.
I'm betting you posted something similar for 4 years in a row minus the goaltending partThe Leafs have:

Amen to that, I'm ready. Just made my first dinner reservation of the season for Thursday!!Yes, all I really care about is getting my beer gut back into game shape. All this nonsense exercise has really put me behind the ball. More important than any roster prediction is that we're all going to sitting back and enjoying Leafs hockey again soon.

Oh this one definitely has PVR all over it. Will tune in around 7:30 or soI'm guessing the Habs will bring out that tired old torch to pass around before the game.
What time can we expect puck drop?

I feel like people are thinking about Gio the same way they did Spezza and Simmonds. With Gio here and Sandin/Lilly coming off great 1st full seasons, the defense has never looked quite like this.
Put it this way - our projected 3rd pairing Gio-Sandin would arguably be a top pairing on a bunch of teams.
I heard it's a 10:30 game now due to the ceremony...I'm guessing the Habs will bring out that tired old torch to pass around before the game.

The drop off is just not nearly as present. Gio is a legit positive on this team, not just a vet filling a spot. Having him on our 3rd pairing and 2nd PP is going to be a difference maker.
