Which brings me back to MY point. When TERM is considered, Matthews is the highest paid player in the league.
You can't ignore the TERM part.

And worth every penny!
Every team in the league would line up to take him and his contract.

His partner went to receive the pass behind the net which he should do. If he didnt do that them Rielly would not have had an outlet pass.

Rielly messed up by not moving the puck quicker. There should have been a forward (typically the center) that should have covered the man in front od the net as a secondary defensive measure though.

Marner has been a better point producer at comparable ages and has had more success when played with weaker players (look at what Marner did in the back half of last season with Kadri). Nylander is incredibly talented with raw tools, but Marner thinks the game on a different level, which has made him a better player.

While true, at their best, defenses must respect the shot of one player while having the freedom to cheat with the other.

Not to say that Nylander is some sort of sniper with Rocket Richard aspirations, but he's much more Kucherov than he is Jumbo Joe.

Just before people jump on that analogy, Kucherov is a guy who has a good shot, but is also a great creator and Jumbo Joe is one of the best passers and creators ever who scored 20 goals every year.
That is the sole reason for using those 2, not that I'm comparing either Leaf to Kucherov or Thornton.

Not really, he’s made some really good saves. He’s not looked as good but he hasn’t been bad.

I agree with you. If term is IGNORED (which would be a silly thing to do), McDavid makes more. I agree with you on that.

But what I wrote is that with TERM considered, Matthews is the highest paid player in the league.
