It's up to the player to make the coach want to write his name on the lineup card every night.

IMO to get in and stay in the lineup you have to perform. Not sure the Leafs should gift a spot to someone who hasn't earned it on the possibility he can find it. Semyenov has been kind of a space filler, IMO. He looked good in camp, but as the games ramp up......

What did Clifford do to suggest he should be playing? He's been awful for awhile. It isn't about gifting, it's also about the process and development.

Leafs and Keefe are capable of making mistakes. I think this is one of them, even if it feels pretty minor. They've already thrown away really good depth players for nothing... let's not keep making the same mistakes in favour of bad veterans.

Fair enough. I'm not sure I see anything more than depth/injury fill-in with Semyonov, Anderson and Clifford on a team of our current quality.

I'm starting to turn against the idea of bringing over Euro players like Semyonov that have out clauses and need to be given minutes right away. Unless the player is so good that he is a lock to make it day #1 or he understands he could spend a year or two in the AHL. They're using a contract slot on someone they will likely move a few months into the season for a bad AHL player, when they could have signed someone half decent from the start to begin with the Marlies. I just don't see much coming through this method, it feels like a wasted effort.

He looked good in preaseason and then.they just didnt play him

Shhhh we are supposed to suck and should trade our 31 year old washed defensive 3C, our overpaid soft wingers and our one dimensional soft slow Center.

The Leafs are a good regular season team that's never been the issue! They remind me of the Sharks/Caps, teams that dominate in the reg season, only to fall to pieces come the post season. As for JT, he is slow, but he's not going anywhere due to his NMC.

This is the year it’s different!!!!

If We didn’t tell ourselves this, then none of us would be watching

That last teeam was a fool one sire. Loved it, hard. They almost won it for us too. Real close one.

Just to reiterate - losing in the maximum amount of games in a playoffs series is not "falling to pieces".

5 first round exits and being up 3-1 against the habs only to fall to pieces fits the bill for me.

But hopefully this years different, we do have more weight than last year and with a full healthy Tavares this team should do some damage this post season, Campbells cemented himself as that #1 I knew he was, I just hope we're not like the old sharks that could never get over the hump.

I'm hoping Ritchie is able to create some space for the boys to score in that tight checking game that is the post season.

I mean against the Bruins the team was just not good enough in net and on D. That much is obvious.

Against the CBJ we were good enough defensively but not offensively.

Against the Habs we just weren't good.

But during all of that, the team was very young. Teams like the Rangers and Devils don't get the hate we get because their teams are losing and not making playoffs. Our teams growing pains were in the spotlight. Other "young" teams that passed us had heavy vet presence in key roles.

If they can build on how they have played, and mentally play the same way, I don't see how we can't win a round. Of course, it seems we are destined for a top NHL team in the league again no matter what. I don't know if we can beat Tampa. But maybe being an underdog is what we need at this point to keep the pressure off.

I know what you are saying but I see a difference in our team from previous yrs.
Playing tighter games just not relying on our offense.
We have a true shutdown line .
4th line with some teal bite.

We will see.
