I just can't fathom that Rielly will play 20 years in the league and will never have a partner worth a damn.

Maybe it's not the partner. Rielly is and always has been a horrible defender. I've been saying it for years, he is not a top pairing defenseman. Can't shoot, can't pass, can't defend, lack of hockey hockey. The only thing he has going for him is his skating.
