Post-Game Talk: Leafs Book Their Tickets for Game 7 [MOD WARNING in OP]

Both Marner and Matthews are pathetic losers. Achieved nothing other than getting elite pay cheques from MLSE.

No killer instinct once again. Even if we manage to win this series by some miracle, we'll get our asses handed to us on a golden platter by Florida.

I can buy the argument.. What you really want is a shutout.. So we are ignoring the main problem and hoping Woll can get a shutout. Woll's best has been better than Stolarz best so maybe it happens.

You don't necessarily need a shutout. The Leafs have scored at least 3 goals in every game this series except for this one.

The Leafs had the much better chances in this game also.

The problem is when your goalie allows the 5th shot of the game, you're chasing. When you're chasing, you have to take more risk and consequently allow more chances again. If your goalie keeps you in the game, he probably faces weaker chances also.

I don't necessarily disagree with any of this

BUT the chasing argument holds much less weight when they haven't scored a single goal in 77+ minutes of gameplay.

You can keep changing the chef (coach), or spices (depth players) but if you keep using the same main ingredients (core players) you’re going to get the same final dish. The sample size is no longer too small, the main ingredients are rotten.
Or maybe your restaurant’s reputation is so established that it doesn’t matter what slop you serve up. ;)

IIRC during Berube's cup run in 2019, STL were far more aggressive with the puck. It was still north south hockey but not to this extent of this so called low event hockey.

We are also not chasing the game if our top line does it's job in the d zone.

We are getting owned by Pinto Amadio and Greig. They are the TOI leaders for Ottawa by a large margin and taking the will away from our top line. As Donnie says.. we now have a professional coach .. So surely us novices, newbies, bandwagon fans and the uniformed, could grasp trying to create offense by moving your chess pieces around so that Pinto/ Amadio and Greig are NOT the most effective players in the series.

Isn't the whole Eastern conference basically playing this same way? Maybe Carolina is the exception.
Carolina / NJ are not, correct.

I don't think the other teams neuter their offence like the Leafs are. FLA, Tampa... they are still creative 5v5. Montreal and Washington are not playing much defence either...

There are instances where the Leafs are in a position to drive some offence and they either dump it in, or pull back and abandon all sense of agression.

They don't need to do it all the time, but they need to be able to recognize when they have an advantage and make use of it. I don't feel we are seeing that at all... it's way too passive.

For those poor souls out there clinging to the belief that the Leafs will close this out in 6, or 7 I have one question for you:

After seeing this team fail repeatedly & consistently for the past 9 years, and then watching that absolutely embarrassing display tonight, getting shut out on home ice, missing chance after chance, with a PP that is now ice cold, watching Mitch & Auston completely disappear (right on cue) for the second straight game, another game where they showed exactly zero killer instinct or even a desire to win, what are you smoking and where can I buy some?
The hope is essentially rooted in the small number of teams who have battled all the way back from a 3-0 series deficit to win a series.

I'm just not going to be telling anyone that my confidence isn't a bit shaken right now.

Giroux was part of the 2010 Flyers team who came back from 0-3. I'm sure he is telling his boys how to get this done.

This is actually making sense to me. It can only be a rotten dish , of course. Why would one keep rotten imgredients in the fridge. You dont, you chuck them.

Because apparently there are no other rotten ingredients in the league like these ones, or so MLSE has told us time and time again. Great leadership at the top.
