Leafs now have the third best GA/G in the league. Defense wins. That's solid right there, particularly given our injuries to the D and Goalies to start the year.

Our PK is top 10, but it's climbing.

I like the way this team is playing right now.
Would be nice if we continued playing away from home.;)

Holl has been better, that's true and he should be recognized for his improved play. That said he's still dumb as a rock and it shows time and time again.

It's OK to be happy with the player but also a realist about his deficiencies.

Playing ahead of Lily, Brodie or Holl?
for me it'd go:

Sandin-Lilj (i'd like them to take the bulk of the top matchups and really be the future of this defense)
Brodie-rielly (sheltered a bit to let rielly do his thing)
Gio-timmins

and then holl if anyone needs maintenance days or falters.

Now if timmins aint it after a long viewing then feel free to swap holl and him.

I didn't post this to be an indictment of the players out, just how well our team has banded together during this time.

Look at the bottom... Seattle Kraken... 5 and 1, with over 4. GAA and a terrible save percentage... that's crazy.

I don't mind winning games because our goalie was better than theirs.
It is the 100% guaranteed most important way to win a playoff series and how the Belfour and CuJo led teams did it.

And was the ice bad, Timmins skates bad or did he have the major jitters to start?

Not our best game of the season, but definitely our gutsiest. I think everyone on the team put out an outstanding defensive performance. Particular plaudits go to Sandin, Giordano, and Liljegren. Murray continues to show what a good goalie can do for a team. The penalty killing was the best I've seen ever by a Leaf team. Btw, all the penalties were deserved but I need someone to ask Holl wtf was he thinking grabbing that puck when you're already a man short.

Twelve games now with at least a point. I keep saying it but this team is different. They're beginning to understand the kind of defensive effort and hustle required every night to be a stanley cup contender. The new guys weren't that impressive, particularly SDA, but with all the penalties it was hard to show your best because there was no flow. If there is one player I thought lost alot of battles it was Engvall. He should sit some games imo.

Or it makes perfect sense. Look at the minutes the D played tonught. Magnificant. A strong penalty kill nullifies the inconsistent reffing that has harmed the Leafs in some playoff rounds.

Some on here haven't appreciated the beauty of a simple, focused, effective defensive core. Play defnese. frst, make the sound, high percentage play to prevent a goal, move the.puck and get into position. If you need to battle the opposition, you just do it. It's your job. All the forwards are buying in too, clogging the ice, winning with the simple play.

My opponent can have their Karlssons, I'l! take the Gios, Muzzins and yes, Holls of the world. Lilly and Sandin are also playing to the historic pedigree of solid Swedish defenseman. The development of Lilly in particular thrived when paired with Gio last year, that wasn't by accident.

Defensemen age like fine wine. Our young D improve their learning curve when around crafty veterans.

Muzzin, Rielly, Brodie getting hurt is probably the best thing to happen to this team, it's forced the forward group to play Defense. Defenseman now look more settled, making crisp passes. What a complete game this was. Just dominated DAL. They only thing DAL had going for them was all their powerplays. Amazing game for the Buds.

Holl is currently playing 25 minutes a night every night in the toughest matchups and we have 1 regulation loss in the last 17 and you wouldn't even have him on the 3rd pair over a guy with none of that experience?

Do I think he can sustain what he's doing now? no, but to say he should be out of the lineup over Timmins is crazy.

Maybe - I think timmins can displace him.

For too long too many have rode Holl. They see what they want instead of what he brings.

Too many on here envision defense as a.game of ice capades with smooth end to end rushes and slick plays. Unfortunately hockey isn''t played against pylons and cut out goalies, it's played against men who earn a living trying to score. It's not always pretty.

The refs really, really wanted us to lose that one. Dallas is sneaky dirty and they got away with most of it. Us on the other-hand got called for everything. On a positive note this team is growing up, playing defense well and finally playing like a team. Feeling really positive right now.

Missed the last 7 minutes of the game (tennis). So happy MM got the shutout.

*We have used 12 defensemen this year, 12! I can't say anyone of them has been a total bust. That's impressive. Timmins was impressive tonight. I wonder if 'returning to the nest' puts him in a comfortable spot and allows him to play freely. That young man has some strength. I'd like to see him start the next game.
*Can we appreciate that PK at the end of the 2nd one more time.
*Not to deny Murray any recognition for his effort tonight, but we also have Samsonov. Injuries may rear up, but I feel more comfortable with these two in net than at any time since...I can remember.
*Our PP is better with Rielly.
*Just checked: Holl and Liljegren with close to 26 min each tonight. Sandin and Gio with over 23. Timmins with 15. Mete with 3.

If you can get me a game changing defenseman at a reasonable cost, do it. But I won't hold my breath. An upgrade(s) for our 3rd line would be my priority.
