The worst part about that is a defenseman clearing a crease with a hard crosscheck is standard business. That loser Cirelli coming in with his fishbowl and retaliating is an offsetting penalty 100% of the time.
That OEL crosscheck wasn't even hard. Remember Marner getting absolutely flattened from behind and no call vs the Blues?

Robertson FINALLY did something.

Berube is NOT going to be happy with that 3rd period.

But on the positive side.

2 point nights from Matthews, Tavares, Nylander, Marner, Knies and Tanev.

Chris Tanev had a goal and an assist.

You get 2 points from Chris Tanev but better win that f***ing game, you DO NOT waste that effort.

Minten got another point he's producing.

I would like to see what he can do with Marner and Tavares for a couple games because if he's there that means Holmberg is not.

Not a pretty win but a win nonetheless.

Go get 1st place back on Monday.
They were loose all night on D but Woll bailed them out. Go check out my poorly spelled post during the game (auto grr), where I mentioned that even though the Leafs hadn't given up a goal they were playing far too loose.

The 3rd was just an extension but Woll didn't bail them out. It could have been 1 or 2-0 for TB if not for Woll, including the breakaway save. That changes the game entirely, especially with Kucherov out and TB feeling the need to shut it down.

I hope Berube reads them the riot act, or at least has a few minutes of yelling and then making them work on their D next practice. TB had some easy entries.

We need to build an identity of shooting the refs. Gotta keep shooting them every single night until this BS stops. They need to cry if they’re put up on the ice in a Leafs match.

Minten is playing very well. Hard to justify taking him out. He's a very smart player and another option at center.

Grebenkin too. Brings some much needed size and willingness to get in opponents faces that this team lacks.

Take the fine Craig.

Not that I disagree but I remember Pat Quinn doing stuff like that and it then spilling over into the players thinking it was OK for them to start doing it and the next thing you knew, the Leafs were getting the extra calls all the time. It's a no-win situation. Take the W and move on IMO. That said, I shouldn't be irritated after a good win. Refs really killed the enjoyment of this game for me.

The look on Jon Coopers face after we scored the empty netter took away all the frustration at the crappy call by the reff

Minten has played well, the only thing I’d like to see a little more of is the physicality. I’m sure it’ll come with time/experience, he’s got good size.

If we see that, I think he replaces Kampf as the 4C by trade deadline. Good savings towards the cap.

I don't want him taken out, I want him promoted to Tavares wing.

That way I don't need to see Holmberg on the wing.

I don't even hate Holmberg in fact I've liked Holmberg a lot in the past but that is a PURE 4th line player he has NO business in the top 6.

It seems like the Leafs are going to have guys on an injured list all year and run through 15 to 17 forwards.

Pacioretty, Domi, Kampf and maybe McMann could be out for a while longer, that's not even considering Jarnkrok though he could come back for the playoffs, who knows?

Minten, Grebenkin, A. Nylander, and Steeves have looked decent or better so far. Holmberg and Robertson could be in that rotation too.

The retaliation shot was a lot more egregious and deserving of a penalty. Our Leafs seem to always get called for the retaliation, but NOT the Lightning player tonight.

Once again, the American based team was favored by the refs to get them back in the game.

Woll deserved the shutout and should have at least had only one goal against.

f*** the Panthers and Lighting, and especially the NHL Refs. Win or lose, I'm growing more and more tired of this anti-Leaf bias as every game goes by.

Congrats on the win Leafs !!! Fighting 2 teams almost every game is very hard.

What irks me is that whenever the Leafs get a lead of two goals or more, you KNOW the stupid calls are coming to help the other team back in. But when's the last time you can confidentially say that with the Leafs down by two or more, you knew they were going to get these kinds of calls?

Game management only ever seems to work against the Leafs, never for them.

Good win, refs and OEL and all that aside...Reminder: If Robertson gets hot, that's the sell high moment we want Tre to move on.

Watching the pre-game interviews, I was struck by how McCabe and Tanev answered the question about Matthews return. They were affirming but not effusive. They had a certainty and a faith in the club - with or without Matthews - that reminds of the kind of focus other successful clubs have, that we have lacked.

Absent ACC's After 20 Games thread for the moment, my general observation remains the same: This feels like a much more focused club. We have skill, increased physicality and a more readily identifiable structure. But what our Identity is (with a capital I) feels like we've become a much, much more serious group.

I don't mean this as a slight to Matthews' encumbered first year as captain, but Tavares and his leadership style - and now without the C - feels much more in kind with this club, now captained by Matthews and coached by Berube than any Keefe iteration when JT was Captain. Maybe fatherhood is getting easier and thus so is hockey.

At any rate, what a fantastic November in terms of character development/investment for the playoffs. I hope.

Feels like a night in which Chief should get the belt.

We’ve seen hot Novembers before but there are distinct differences in how they’re winning that are encouraging building blocks

Happy Keefe kept Marner and JT together

Happiest for Robby for getting off the snide. Love seeing a pure shooter snipe like that.
