Post-Game Talk: Leafs Beat Panthers and Clinch a Playoff Spot 3-2

Uhhh Florida was undermanned and playing their 3rd game in 4 nights with last night being the latter of a back to back. The leafs were rested and healthy. Florida controlled play for many periods during the game. Did we learn nothing from "we want Florida" two years ago? As a leafs fan every team should worry you, we've only made it to the second round once in 8 years.

Leafs have to play whoever is in front of them. But to say you aren't worried about Florida seems way to overconfident for a team with literally nothing to warrant it.

Florida is way too beat up. Ekblad’s knee is completely shot, and no amount of PED’s are going to help it. Marchand is a shell of what he used to be. Matt Tkachuck tries to play like he’s the second coming of Eric Lindros but he’s even more fragile than Lindros was and now he’s totally broken down. Bobo has reverted back to the sieve that he was in Columbus and can’t stop anything.

It was one to watch for sure. Most important game of the year, divisional rival, potential 1st round (or 2nd round) playoff preview, was hoping for a great game and it did not disappoint. It was a hard fought battle from beginning to end ending in a comeback victory for us, can't ask for much more than that.

So it wasn’t a true mano on mano tilt, I still have doubts this team is built for the playoffs, but we’ll know soon enough……

When i saying everyone need to raise their game, it's actually what's happened last l
night.

1st line stared slod first 40 but 2nd and 3rd was playing good hockey overall on those 40 minutes.

Stolarz been great in 2nd and made a key save on greer on 3rd... Without that save, maybe this game just finishin 2-1 but he made key save to keep his team tie, Marner became a hero. That's basically what's happened with Tkachuk in Florida with Bobrovsky making save giving a shot to the best player of his team to make the difference at the end.

If Stolarz was not here, they are no hero for leafs it's why goaltending are so important come playoff time. 1 key save/ 1 bad goal can change everything

Absolutely CANNOT go into a playoff series being afraid of the opposition or trying to avoid the opposition, my friend.

That’s been the Leafs main problem for the past half decade - - just happy to get “some respect in the handshake line” as their loser ex coach Bozo The Keefe proudly proclaimed.

Boston was completely washed last year and Toronto was by far the better team. But because of the loser mentality that Bozo The Keefe promoted - - along with horrible coaching mistakes and brutal goaltending - - Boston managed to squeeze out one more series win before collapsing to the bottom of the NHL.

Florida is in a similar position this season. Their best years are in the rear view mirror and their players are physically beat up. Any team that gets them in the post season needs to go in with the mindset that Florida is ready to be euthanized and attack them accordingly.

I like very much that we are lethal in third periods of important games. Oilers, kings, panthers. So essentially if we are close or up, we are winning that thing. I guess not giving much during first two and great goaltending leads to upping our game in the third to win it.

And Florida has had a lot of trouble holding leads and winning games in the third period. Not sure if they over exert themselves in the first two periods but for such a good team, they cough up leads a lot.

Team did what it had to do in a very fast playoff type game .. teams are very very close now .. bottom line Leafs won 1st and Cats took 2nd and 3rd periods tilting ice .. Matty really really struggled to keep up (very concerning) .. Stolly > Bobbo great .. our D > their D great .. Mitch was able to use his skill for 2 goals (very uplifting) .. but Cats were missing their 2 best forwards (scary game was that close) .. their D will get an upgrade with Ekblad after 2 playoff games (scary) .. bottom line of all teams we don't want a 1st round matchup with them .. much better off with Tampa or Sens
