Gudas doesn't have either a ring or a huge Viking beard (anymore).

But I think they went with him because of how much importance Anaheim places in defense. They have those three young studs who need mentoring. Gudas, Trouba, Fowler, and Dumoulin are all excellent choices to provide veteran leadership to those kids.

And you are correct that nobody should care who Anaheim's Captain is, or why, but sometimes my mind wanders when I watch the game and junk like this seeps in.

Find it pretty silly worrying about whether he's dressed or not.

To be fair he’s been back for 2 games and is playing with a rookie and Holmberg. That being said, he has been underwhelming in general

He has the passing game to warrent a sniper and if that's not Robertson then I expect they will get him a guy by playoffs.

McMann can shoot the puck... he'll be on that line on Saturday, and then we can judge what we've got in this group. Holmberg does quite a few good things on the ice... but seems to be a black hole offensively this year. I suspect Robertson is done here, barring injuries.

Domi looked lost last night. He seems to be able to work decently well with talented players... like Matthews and Kane in the past, but less so if he's got to carry the offensive load. I don't know if he can make a McMann/Minten/Domi line work, or if we are going to have to change the lines around, and have Nylander on that line, and Marner with Tavares.... Domi with Matthews... there is time to experiment.

Reaves probably played his best game in awhile. Nevertheless, either he or Holmberg should come out when McMann returns. However, I have a feeling Minten is the one and Holmberg will assume 3rd line centre. That makes me cringe.

Holmberg is good in the bottom 6 (preferably 4th line) His offensive skills are pretty non-existent, but he is sound defensively, forechecks well and draws penalties.

That seems to be his best quality so far this year.

He's a decent utility guy, and kind of an ideal 13th guy in your lineup. He can do a bit of everything if someone else gets injured, and he won't hurt you in the process.

No matter how hard you try to justify it Nylander with only one hit on the season is pathetic. There's no excuse for having such a low number. You would literally having to do everything you could to avoid physical contact.

If you think he's playing smart and safe to avoid injury I would advise you to replace the words "smart" and "safe" with "cowardly" and "spineless" and you would be on to something.

Not hitting people is not the same as avoiding contact. He takes hits, but just isn't a hitter. That doesn't make him a less effective player.

Would you prefer he led the team in hits rather than goals? Over the last 2+ seasons only 9 players have scored more goals and only 12 have more points.

Let the hitters hit and the scorers score: don't try to turn a silk purse into a sow's ear.

The only good player (he's just not worth what teams paid for him) in your list is Jeannot and he played 26 games.

The rest are not regulars, you are proving his point.

Holmberg is a good player who can move around the lineup if needed, plays C/W, PKs, is good defensively, and has more offensive upside than a regular 4th liner, he is good in a limited role and can fill in somewhere in a pinch or late in the game higher up the lineup instead of a defensive liability.

We have depth, the 4th line should likely be some combination of Lorentz/Dewar - Kampf - Holmberg.

I do think his offensive skills are better than he has shown this year, he produced well before and was better offensively in the SHL, I think it is there, but ideally he is used in a more limited role.

Pointy had a good game last night drawing two penalties and attempting to do something in the offensive zone. Not his usual lack of contribution.

He's just a more effective hockey player then Reaves.

Anyway, judging by today practice lines, looks like Reaves is the extra forward with McMann being back.

If he's slotted as the 3C, whoever is playing on that line will suffer. He's so bad offensively that if you're trying to get Domi, Robertson or even McMann going, it's not going to happen. That means we're not going to get any secondary scoring from our bottom 6. I agree that he's fine on the 4th line.
