Hope stolarz is ok. 2nd line looked great. First line had looks.

Also, Rielly was brutal from what I saw.

I think I saw the same play you did. OEL does a great job pinning a guy, Rielly has the loose puck and just muffins it up to the high slot, Leafs spend 40 seconds getting cycled.

Hope Stolarz is okay as well, and the second line popping is what you want to see a couple of times a week. Lot more energy out of the first line and Matthews, the effort was acceptable even if it wasn't a huge points night vs a trash team.

I honestly just think Reaves is just waiting for someone to take a run at the Captain to hurt him or run over the goalie purposely before being green lit for a fight. The enforcer entertainment aspect is washed but the deterrence is always a factor. If Reaves jumps someone it's over. Probably suspension worthy like Rielly and the case of the empty netter. It would be ugly so why waste it on a plug? Beat up a decent player not some drunk dude named Tanner or Tyler that is just earning an NHL paycheck.

How is there a deterrence factor if Reaves is waiting for someone important to get run over to fight? The bad thing already happened and wasn’t deterred at that point.

Fear and intimidation to get knocked out duh. This is Berube not gong show Keefe. Fighters will pick their spots. Do you watch the games or just hate Reaves because he fights?

Is Reaves psychic ? I said he's likely waiting till someone hurts Matthews or the goalies. Who does he have to beat up to win over Berube after he was a goon himself? He has his role. It's limited. So is his ice time. What's the problem?

I wonder why the Ducks named Gudas as Captain.

He's not the best player on the team. And I'm pretty sure he never even wore so much as an "A" before going there. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

It would be like the Leafs naming Reaves as Captain.

No matter how hard you try to justify it Nylander with only one hit on the season is pathetic. There's no excuse for having such a low number. You would literally having to do everything you could to avoid physical contact.

If you think he's playing smart and safe to avoid injury I would advise you to replace the words "smart" and "safe" with "cowardly" and "spineless" and you would be on to something.

The core four accounting for the bulk of the Leafs goals is apt. If their goal scoring didn't match their percentage of cap hit there would be something seriously out of whack. The only problem is that I don't think the core have been scoring more but rather the depth has been scoring less.

I'm surprised Woll didn't hurt something when he fell on his butt warming up for the third period.

Do you just hand it over to newly acquired Trouba and start game planning on which superstars in the tri state area to Dummy like a prime Scott Stevens or just accept your franchise is a feeder team and pick the guy with a huge viking beard and a ring? I'm saying who cares its California enjoy the waves.

Good news/bad news situation.

Good news is the top 6 was great last night even though Knies Matthews Marner didn't score last night they were flying, if not for the Ducks goaltending it could have easily been 7-2.

Also the boys are back in 1st place thanks to Vancouver beating Florida.

2nd line was also fantastic.

Bad news Stolarz is hurt.

And that's concerning because as Woll has been and he's been fantastic, including having to come in last night and get it done.

He's also prone to injury, and in the past it hasn't taken much.

Missed 3 months after getting hurt on a muffin shot against.

Missed game 7.

Has already missed 3 weeks this year.

As talented as Woll is he's also shown to be incredibly soft.

As long as he's in the net I'm confident because he's been fantastic.

But I'm not confident he's going to stay in the net.

Hopefully Stolarz injury isn't serious and he's back by Dallas

the problem is 21 games and 1 point.
If he is so important for fear and intimidation, why do good teams not bother with goons anymore?

Ask the tough guys. Berube was a goon and fought often. It was in style at the time. Fights still happen and Reaves will still fight. Is injury prevention not good for a payroll or roster ? Let's ask Shanahan when Berube fed him Irish stew in the 90s.

I have to say I love Craig Berube.

Win or loss, anytime the camera goes to him losing his shit on the refs makes me laugh every time. Like I mean, this guy goes on the refs so hard they should probably feel scared.

Bank the points, move on.. team is starting to get healthyish. In a ideal world, it's Reaves coming out for McMann, but I think it's going to be Holmberg.

Stolarz injury doesn't look to be serious, just going off of how he skated off and was moving fine after it.

Thank fully Papi was heard to be able to enjoy tacos after the game. Need an update on the music selection. But most importantly the dog was alright. Marner just keeps working hard.

I like Matthews and Matthews as the nuclear option when we need something late.
Before this game I would have said Marner with the second line and Nylander on the 3rd with Knies so he has some skill to play with.
But after that game I’m not breaking up that second line.

McMann - Matthews - Domi
Patches - Tavares - Nylander
Knies - Minten - Marner
That may be one of the most balanced options when McMann gets back, yet we all know it will be Marner higher than Nylander. Domi not playing well enough yet and McMann will be coming back from Injury so it could be a dozen games before we see that as an option for a game IMO.

Pointy had a good game last night drawing two penalties and attempting to do something in the offensive zone. Not his usual lack of contribution.

Remember too......there are people complaining on here because he hasn't fought - YET. The other guy has to want the fight too right......

Sounds like he maybe tried to get Gudas to go last night (behind the play on TV), but he surely isn't ducking anyone.

I thought the last couple games his line was fine. Some posters though seem to think the 4th line had a great shift here or there, but then continue to say that Reaves had nothing do with that good shift.
