If they were to add him and not shift Leo, he would likely start in the pressbox. If they do shift Leo and decide that between him and Moore they are okay at center, then it makes some sense to replace the element Martin brought with someone of more talent, that could play up and down the lineup. Especially, with a date with the Bruins on the horizon. It sounds like the ask would be a young NHL player and/or prospects, which the Leafs have coming in waves. I think the Leafs would rather move some of their youth over picks at this time so that fits. There are some centers out there that could make some sense (Plekanec, Ryan, Glendening, Vermette) and if they decide they don't want Leo in the middle it's more likely they end up with one of them. But, I do think when you consider the type of skillset the Leafs need and cost to acquire, there may not be a better fit when it comes to a winger rental than Maroon.
