This is bugging me.

Just doesn't make sense with everything we have heard.

Unless Oilers management has interest in Soshnikov and/or Leivo.

I don't at all think Peca would be off limits, but I'm not sure TB would be willing to swap him for Maroon, though? I would assume Stevie is going to try and liquidate all the picks he can before he dips into bodies.

I'd probably be ok with a swap of Peca and Maroon.

No chance. Peca’s the only guy on our team who can win a faceoff and he’s looking very much like either our 3C or 4C going forward. We aren’t trading him for a rental Maroon.

Spend cap space and assets on DEFENSE.

Give JVR's ice time to Kapanen instead. Or Leivo.

Lol. We will at some point need to trade assets to get guys if we want them. Like I said, Yzerman I'm sure would prefer to deal in picks, but if we're really gonna sit here and say Matthew freaking Peca is somehow off limits, then I don't know what we're even doing trying to play hockey instead of just collecting prospects.

We've gotten to this point without winning faceoffs. I think we could make it without all 18 games of his NHL experience.

You can't send down Kapanen, he basically is the 4th line right now
He's also getting PK time

I could understand a 4th line center upgrade but a winger? Seems strange

I just don’t see how or why the Leafs add any more wingers.

They have too many as it is. Plus they even have guysbon the Marlies who are NHL ready.

I wouldn't be surprised if I saw a maroon for leivo swap and then komarov plays 4C and Moore bennies scratched.

Leafs fans claim Maroon wouldn't even make their team though.

How could this be?

If they were to add him and not shift Leo, he would likely start in the pressbox. If they do shift Leo and decide that between him and Moore they are okay at center, then it makes some sense to replace the element Martin brought with someone of more talent, that could play up and down the lineup. Especially, with a date with the Bruins on the horizon. It sounds like the ask would be a young NHL player and/or prospects, which the Leafs have coming in waves. I think the Leafs would rather move some of their youth over picks at this time so that fits. There are some centers out there that could make some sense (Plekanec, Ryan, Glendening, Vermette) and if they decide they don't want Leo in the middle it's more likely they end up with one of them. But, I do think when you consider the type of skillset the Leafs need and cost to acquire, there may not be a better fit when it comes to a winger rental than Maroon.

Okay, apparently not trading JVR, okay...

Even if we traded all 3 of Martin, Leivo and Soshnikov, none of them are in our line up right now. The line up has been spectacular so far;

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Marleau-Kadri-Marner
JVR-Bozak-Brown
Komarov-Moore-Kapanen

None of those RWs are going anywhere. Babcock apparently doesn't want Komarov to leave. Bozak is the odd man out at that point but who the hell is playing centre? Nylander moves to centre...Maroon-Matthews-Hyman? and JVR-Nylander-Brown Seems like a lot of movement that probably won't move the needle that much. Matthews-Nylander has been dynamite together, they had a wicked play tonight against Ottawa that netted Matthews a goal.

There isn't a lot you'd want to mess around with in our forward group. Basically Maroon can go in for JVR or Komarov, fine, but management/coach don't seem that interested in doing that so I am truly stumped.

One thing I could potentially see for the Leafs if we acquire Maroon is Marleau playing centre. Babs has been more than willing to use Marleau at centre earlier in the year during injuries/slumps and this would also allow us to bump Moore out of the lineup who Babcock isn't too impressed with. With Marleau at centre it would mean we wouldn't need to shelter JVR as much at even strength.
I could potentially see something like this with Maroon and Komarov potentially swapping (I doubt Babs switches Hyman at this point).

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Maroon-Kadri-Marner
JVR-Marleau-Brown
Komarov-Bozak-Kapanen

I made a thread about this very topic, before Kapenan came up and Oiler fans seem to be good with Leivo and a 3rd for Maroon

Done. I'd take Leivo and a 3rd over just a 2nd. Lets get it done now before Maroon sucks out all his value by the deadline.

I could see the Lightning trading one or two of their prospects for Maroon. He'd be an excellent addition to the Bolt. Leafs too, but I think Tampa Bay is the one who'll get him out of the two.

Oilers need to improve their team speed. I would be looking at players with this element.

I say this often, Stevie Y is a sharp trader, if you are trading with him. Be wary. If I had to deal with a GM here, It would be Lamoriello who seems to value Maroon type of players, You are likely to get a better deal from him.

I agree with the posters suggesting that the Oilers are after bodies rather than picks, however, I could also see mastermind Chiarelli taking the picks and using them as currency at the draft. Although in that case I don't see a 3rd round pick holding much value....... hoping for a 2nd or a player like Leivo. I'm not holding my breath though.
