I know Nylander is really good but a lot of players are putting him on a pedestal. Someone said that he is a top-5 winger in the league.

Also, if the value is not there for Toronto, I get it. But no point in calling our good players garbage. There is nothing positive that is going to come from this.

Fair, fair.

17.7% Sh% ain’t no fluke
It really isn't. He misses the net often aiming for corners and catches a lot of iron. It isn't like the majority of his shot attempts are just going in and it isn't sustainable like you sometimes see with guys with puck luck.

He picks and chooses his shots. If most of his near net misses hit the goalie instead of going just-wide, his % would probably drop by at least 6-7%.

Man, you need to do a little research. Oleksiak is a legit top 4 defender who plays over 19 minutes a game against top lines and is a +1 on a horrible defensive team. McCann has more goals than Nylander (20 to 17) and is the same age.
Man Kerfoot would put up ppg playing on the first power play of the mighty kraken. They both suck

No one is saying you shouldn't have protected Nylander, but McCann is Seattle's MVP, and this entire thread is full of Leafs fans that have watched McCann play one game this season and believe he is a 3rd line player. If you look at his production with Pit and his linemates there with limited ice time, you can see his production is not a fluke.

You don't like the proposal, that is totally fair, but to pretend Toronto is getting a garbage return is crap. This trade makes Seattle worse, and depending on McCanns extension, I doubt I'd do it from Seattle's perspective.
If McCann is on your first or second line you are in trouble. It’s like when Tyler Bozak was torontos top center. Nylander would be captain and best player by a wide margin.

Sure. Having a 30 goal scorer in your top 6 is always a recipe for disaster.....

So you think Jared McCann picks his shots better than Ovechkin, Stamkos or Austin Matthews?

Better? Using that word is a slippery slope.

We are defining "picking shots" as the action of "shooting vs not shooting", not picking locations as in accuracy.

If you watched him this year, you would see that when the shot chance is not "high percentage", he is much more likely to hold the puck or pass it than Ovechkin. So he is definitely more picky about when he will shoot, vs pass, which will always lead to a higher shooting percentage. Note, that does not mean that a player that shoots less is better than a player that shoots more, but the behavior does ultimately effect their sh%. Without other context, it means nothing.

Looking at shooting percentage and formulating an argument about a player is ridiculous without objectively watching them play.

Draisaitl has been a 20% shooter for 4 years. yet a couple of years ago, people here were claiming it was unsustainable. He is smart about when to take the shot, vs when to hold or pass.

McCann is a smart player with a great shot. His high S% is not puck luck.
