I am much more happy with his play without the puck. We knew he had strong offensive skills and would do fine. He has looked terrific defensively.

I am also very happy with his defensive play without the puck, but we knew that was his strength.

How comfortable he has looked offensively, and his ability find shooting lanes to create scoring chances, and pinch at appropriate times to keep possession is impressive. Without powerplay time, and nowhere near the TOI (albeit small sample size), he is so far keeping up offensively (ppg) to the likes of Provorov and Werenski this season.

I am not saying he is them, but he is a much better prospect than everyone thought.

Combine that with his skating ability and he looks like a future top 4 stud with easy first pairing upside.

One of those hybrid players that do a bit of everything and can play in any situation.

The trade back and selection of Dermott is Hunters best move yet.

Can't wait to see him in a high pressure playoff situation. He shows so much poise for a rookie d-man. He is already showing the two-way ability of a reliable and sound top 4 blueliner and definitely has a very good chance to be a top pairing defenseman.

He's only been on the ice for 7 even-strength goals against in 23 games. I don't think he'll ever be a 50+ point guy (though I think his offence will be half-decent), but I think he's growing into a defensive stud!

We'll see how he progresses next year as he presumably gets tougher matchups, more minutes, more defensive zone starts, etc.

He hasn't had much chance to show it yet on the big team, but I love his ability to change pace and play at different speeds on the rush. He's a terrific skater but he can also slow the game down. That's a sign of a good IQ/processor imo.

Hard to understate how good he’s been. Crazy reliable for a rookie, makes very few mistakes and almost always recovers well. Great gap control, really knows when to pressure and when to back off. His skating and skill are great too, love him as a puck mover and in the offensive zone. Decently physical and strong too, doesn’t play small.

I’ve been very impressed, no complaints so far. We’ve been a much better team with him in the lineup, he’s really solidified our D.

I was one of his biggest fans but even I didnt think he'd step in right away and be this good.
The pass he made to Kapanen on his goal was something.

Everyone who gave the Leafs flak for trading back and not taking Konecny are going to be eating some major crow.

It's obviously still early but he's impressed me more than Rielly at the same age. No hesitation in saying he has top pair potential.

Several of the best defensemen of the last decade were drafted in the 2nd round: Weber, Josi, Subban, Keith, Vlasic. The way Dermott is looking, he has a chance to be the next one.
