LD Shakir Mukhamadullin (2020, 20th, NJD; traded to SJS)

I deff see why he is considered a risky pick but what he has been doing so far offensively has been impressive. I know he has alot of things to work on and I'm not sold on this pick I'm atleast glad he is accomplishing big things in his D+1 season so far. He is a big future piece for the Devils, excited to see how he pans out.

I thought 20 was high for Shakr - I had him at 32 a couple of times doing Wings mock drafts.
All the scouting report questions about IQ scared me down. Maybe they were wrong.

Too early to say it really, but despite his MAJOR flaws he has performed far beyond what most people expected. Very interesting pick.

Seems like with Naumenkov on the team Mukhamadullin is the odd man out, at least for the time being.

I doesn't matter right now, because of WJC.
Yeah and afterward it most likely won't matter due to Alexeyev going back to NA.

I actually didn't realize the WJC camp has already started (has it?) and thought it's insane to play Semyonov over anyone at this point.

This move was likely done as a result of Mukhamadullin being gone for nearly two months following the isolation upon return.
Well, the move was forced because Soshnikov wanted out. The rest is just a consequence. It's slightly optimistic to think SYu traded one of their better players because their 7th/8th defenseman is leaving for a few months.

LD was by far the weakest position on the team in any case but sure, between Mukhamadullin's absence and Alexeyev's possible departure they had to address that and not some other issue.

Shot in the dark?
wow.
If you can't handle the truth it is surely not my problem as a Team Russia fan. To me a defenceman prospect is way more rare and important than to the Devils. There were quite a few defencemen who did look good at 18 and never panned out. Mukhamadullin has obvious flaws in his game. At this point age is a postive factor. He is 18 and he has tons of time to grow and work on his game, but he is sure thing not a Provorov or Sergachyov type of prospect as I have already mentioned earlier in this thread.

And it was a high risk high reward pick by the Devils. Just don't forget the high risk in that sentence.

I'm not going to disagree with what your saying here. But saying he only has a shot in the dark at Team Russia at the WJC? That's absurd. He is a virtual lock to play and will likely at the bare minimum be in the top four. I don't have the guys in contention in front of me for the team but I remember it was pretty obvious he one of the best of the bunch.

He was talking about Mukhamadullin being having a shot in the dark at being a star in the NHL , wasn't talking about the WJC

Amirov has a good chance. Mukhamadullin is a shot in the dark.
Every single prospect is a shot in the dark

I doubt very much a defenseman breaking records and out producing forwards is going to be considered lower than the guy the Devils scouted him over

He is not breaking any serious records. The only "record" is that it is rare for a 18 year old to play that much in the KHL. His game is far from flawless though. And while no prospect is a sure thing, there are always some who are cosidered special exactly because their game is nearly flawless at a very young age. Guys like Provorov who played like a 25 year old in his draft year, in fact better than most 25 year olds. I am just pointing out Muhamadullin is not going to be that kind of prospect with which you can just watch him progress and enjoy. Thre is a lot of uncertainty here still. The WJC will be a good opportunity to look at him against his peers and see how he compares to the best of te class.

Fair enough. I just think some are being harsh on a guy who has only played defense for so long as compared to his peers. He was drafted for his offensive prowess, athleticism, and size.

Even though he was a 20th overall pick, he was a project pick for a team that had a third 1st rounder to play with after taking two high-skilled forwards. A recently-converted forward with size and strong skating is worthy of a 1st round gamble when your chip stack is huge
