He's a trainwreck defensively, but so is the rest of the defense. The nice thing about him, he can actually contribute on the offensive side of things and makeup for his mistakes.

Probably to be expected, as he is still learning the pro game altogether. A dependable partner would work wonders...not sure who is paired with him currently. I think he could be a solid defenseman if sheltered, and played on the PP. Either way, it's a good value draft pick as he's showing some potential.

Considering he was a 5th round pick and had already won his team an nhl game id say you’re correct, he’s a great value pick.

He was paired with leddy yesterday who has been really bad in his own zone lately so that didn’t help. The kid has a lot of upside

Why was this kid constantly passed over in the draft? He was projected to go in the 2-3 round when he was first eligible to get drafted.

He would have really benefited from being paired with CDH or someone else steady as he learns how to play in the NHL. Leddy's not the right guy.

f***ing wanted him at EVERY draft he was available with a late pick, then later wanted us to sign him EVERY year after going undrafted. He was 100% going to be an AHL all-star D, so how much could the contract spot have hurt?

the Islanders drafted 3 guys I really wanted in Barzal, Beauvillier, then Aho. All three seem to be turning out great for you guys.

A bit too early to say anything about Aho think.

Whats the % of 5th round picks that go on to play an NHL game, let alone score a goal? I'd count it as a good pick already. And I have a hunch it's only going to look better.

I'm not a draft guy or anything, so I never heard of him before him getting drafted but can't thin of why he wasn't taken higher.
Dude don't say that. I'll get way too excited. I loved Vis.
It's the side to side movement, shiftiness and vision.

I don't know what impact he'll make on the rest of the year but this was a solid pick by Garth & staff

This guy should've been drafted years ago. Islanders got a freebie.

A 5th round pick that just becomes a top AHLer already is a good pick.

And I agree. It made no sense to me that he didn't get drafted during the third year he was eligible, I really expected it. He always was going to be an AHL impact player and surely there was NHL potential to be seen as well - He should have been picked way sooner.

It all has to do with size. The fact that he has improved in playing with men over the years only makes him a better shot at making it.

His passing is amazing. Forget about his goal..look at his assist to Clutterbuck. If you didn't know better, it looks like he was shooting at the net, only to redirect the shot right on Clutterbucks stick.

Regarding his defence..NO, I do not agree that it's a trainwreck. He covered his man, but being his third game and all, he was so concentrated on the 2 guys coming down, he didn't see the third guy coming in. There was also no communication between the players. Chimera, as the vet, should have yelled, "I got this guy". Also, as a D, you cover the closer guy to the net (Leddy had the outer guy - Aho had the inner guy)..it was a 3 on 2 with Chimera coming down the rear.

Anyway, All Aho might need to do is bulk up. He's got the tools and his toolbox is better than Ikea...Might be a Black and Decker 8-)

Honka seems to be f***** up by Dallas and Aho is progressing nicely.

A while ago I asked why a guy like Honka goes 14th overall when Aho doesn’t even get drafted.
I still can’t comprehend this.

Somewhat of a regular for Skelleftea on their way to the title in his draft year, too, so it's not like he was a late bloomer.

Offensive Dman like him will definitely struggle to get ice-time under Hitchcock. Sad!
