Going into the season, I figured Dahlin would probably be Buffalo's best d-man by Christmas. I did not expect him to be there by game 2, but there he is. Wowza.
After the 2nd period in game 1, I think you mean ;)

He’s already their best player (arguably Eichel) after 2 games, and that kinda makes me nervous. Is he really this cool, calm, and composed, or is Buffalo really that bad in contrast?

It’s almost irritating how efficient he is, because in Buffalo we are not allowed to have nice things and he will surely be ruined, right?

...right?

yeah the finn has the better TEAM doesn't mean he's the BETTER player. Dahlin by a country mile. seriously watch this kid play he's been spectacular

This is a Dahlin thread so let's end this convo with this:

Heiskanen's best comparable is Karlsson as well. Don't start with the "Dahlin is better by a country mile" BS. The difference isn't much if any right now and they'll likely never be THAT far apart. Dahlin is the flashier player and will put up more points but that's about the only difference between the two other than age. Anyways, this is a Dahlin thread so let's not get this going any longer we can end it here. We can compare in 2-3 years when both have a few seasons of experience. By then, if not right now, both will be #1 dmen. Both already are playing that way it appears. You should watch Heiskanen play more as well it appears you haven't. No one is/should be arguing that Heiskanen has more potential, cause we all know Dahlin's potential is superstar level. No one is/should be arguing over that

Don't think people like to accept the fact that there can be 2 great young dmen

Lot of good young NHL defenders right now.

Werenski, Jones, Chabot, Provorov, Dahlin, McAvoy, Sandin, Heiskanen...tons of elite talent coming through.

What you are gonna get with Dahlin is a solid defensemen on defense that can put up offensive numbers. These flashy defensemen like Hesikanen will resemble Karlsson but none of them embody a Nick Lidstrom type D which is exactly what Dahlin I see molding into.

As much as people want the flashy Karlsson and Burns type those guys will never be the two way defensemen like Lidstrom and soon to be Dahlin.

He is that cool, calm and composed. He was like that in his first game with the Frölunda men's team as well, when he was 16 years old.

I think a lot of people have only seen the highlights from his early SHL career and think he's just a flashy offensive defenseman as well. They haven't seen the two-way abilities he showed during the second half of last season.

Kinda weird comparison considering Heiskanen is the one with more rounded game, so it doesn't really fit the description of Heiskanen being the worse defensively here.

I mean both players are stellar defensively but the comparison is still way off because Heiskanen's game is all about that flawless defensive game which isn't the case with Karlsson or Burns.

Except heiskanen is known for his defense...he was expected to be lacking on offense a few seasons back but developed amzingly in this area since.

He is not a flashy offensive dman eho lack on defense...

You comparing Karlsson to Burns shows me exactly how much you know about Karlsson. Terrible terrible post. Get lost.

... What? Of the two, Dahlin is the "flashy defenseman", not Heiskanen. Heiskanen is the solid defensive type.

Dahlin can razzle-dazzle with the puck, but he's also the rock solid defensive type. At 18, with 2 games of NHL experience, he already looks like the best defensive d-man Buffalo has had on its roster in ages. It's a waiting game, but the kid absolutely looks like he can become what he was hyped up to be: a guy who plays defense like Lidstrom with the offensive skill of Karlsson...plus a bit of a mean streak.

This basically what I saw immediately during game 1 even though the Sabres lost.

I love watching Dahlin calmly catch a puck and play it as if it was practice. Considering the rest of our D can't make a tape to tape pass, it's quite refreshing.

There's hasn't been a lot of flash to Dahlin's game yet, but you can see the IQ is there. I saw him jump up into a rush and anticipate the puck by going to a scoring position by the side of the net. When the play was about to be broken up, Dahlin circled back in time to be in position to break up a rush. The crazy thing is the entire motion looked so choreographed. There was no scrambling to make up for being out of position. It's still way too early to draw any conclusions, but I like what I've seen so far.

Oof.

Uh anyways,

Dahlin has looked good. I watched his first 2 games but still wanna go back and watch that shift by shift video. Wish we had those for more prospects that are playing their first games
