Having your best players kill penalties is a huge waste. Any third pairing scrub can kill penalties. I'd rather give Dahlin a couple extra 5on5 shifts where he can make an impact on both ends.

Doughty 2:35 SH TOI /Game
Karlsson 3:06 SH TOI/Game
Carlson 2:31 SH TOI/Game
Giordano 3:28 SH TOI/Game
Burns 3:10 SH TOI/Game
Provorov 4:40 SH TOI/Game
Keith 2:21 SH TOI/Game
Slavin 2:48 SH TOI/Game
Suter 3:27 SH TOI/Game
Letang 2:43 SH TOI/Game
Pietrangelo 2:50 SH TOI/Game
Hanifin 2:10 SH TOI/Game
Klingberg 2:11 SH TOI/Game
Byfuglien 3:06 SH TOI/Game

Weird, everyones best defenders are playing big PK time.

Yes, NHL has a terrible issue with usage inefficiency.

Dahlin scored a goal so now he's too offensive minded? I expected nothing less from this thread.
agreed...prospects take time especially defenders, people would give up on a guy after 6 or 10 games and be trade him off, just crazy...this is the player your team is going to have for a corner stone for the next 15 years hopefully or more not the corner stone now everything takes time...I agree with you about this board (not all posters there are some good ones on here)

Imagine thinking someone is a two-way defender, who is generational, but doesn't play in all situations.

Something doesn't add up. Either he isn't two-way or he isn't generational.

Well the coach plays Kyle Okposo ahead of him on the pp too, so maybe he just sucks?

Not much pk time, not much pp time, by these well thought out measures it appears he is a scrub.

This just in - Dahlin isn't a perfect, polished superstar at 18, after just 5 NHL games. Kid looks DAMN talented though, and is off to, IMO, a good start to his NHL career. Has franchise dman written all over him.

But but McDavid was like immediately the best player in game one of his career!!!! Oh wait he wasn’t? Like at all? I keep getting distracted watching Dahlin poke check Mackinnon on the rush like it’s beer league.

Dahlin will be top 3 defender in the league. You can already see shades of Lindstrom in his game. In two years he will win the Norris. No, I am not shooting too high. He is that good at 18 wait until he gets a few seasons in. The kid is rubbing out players with the puck along the boards with ease.
Just crazy at 18.

He's already our best player in terms of defending on the rush and in his own end. Throws some big hits, insanely smooth, and loves to start and/or join the rush. Just unreal instincts all over the ice. Nothing not to like so far :)

Interesting.

Still waiting for anyone to agree with you. 2 years he wins a Norris, no, not happening. Down the line, I'd bet he does.

Agreed. Unless he carries the team to the playoffs and goes truly nuts. This league generally makes you get snubbed for the Norris a couple times.

Could he legitimately be in the conversation for top 5 defenseman in 2 years, on actual effectiveness? Ya, he really could be. He is disciplined and super smart. He processes a step or two ahead. His skating is tremendous and will only get better as he builds his adult strength. All in a body that is 6’3” and likes to hit and win defensively as much as to score.

The closest development path that I can compare him to is Doughty, but honestly I think Dahlin has better puck skills and vision.

It’s hard not to gush after 5 games. But in comparison to Tyler Myers Calder winning year as a d+2, Dahlin is so much better defensively it’s hard to describe without hyperbole. And offensively he is clearly focusing on smart and safe over risk, and yet he consistently has created chances every game except maybe Boston in game one, where he only had one good opportunity.

Beware of opposing fans bearing agendas.

I'm much more interested in what his own coach thinks of him. Phil, please surprise the hell out of me, and get this kid on PP1.

Karlsson won when he was 22, four years after he was drafted, and went nearly PPG to do so. That's some pretty lofty expectations to beat that, and do it earlier than has ever been done before.
