One is the offensive defenseman, one is the two-way.

Uhm, what? Dahlin is a two-way d-man as everyone knows, so are you saying Heiskanen is the offensive d-man? That makes it even worse, a year older offensive d-man on a much higher scoring team getting outscored.

Dahlin has 11 seconds SH TOI/Game
50% OZ starts..
19 mins a game

Heisknane has 1 min SH TOI/Game
40% OZ starts
21 mins a game

So yea I think Heiskanen is the two way guy and Dahlin is the offensive guy.

Nice try lol. Both are two-way. Dahlin's gotten his measly 2 points without any PP time. His defensive play and poise is what has been impressive, not his offense. Housley needs to pump him up to the top PP.

Heiskanen won't put up too many points just yet on a team that already has Klingberg. Dahlin should be getting first PP time and it would not surprise me at all if Dahlin had more points this year. In fact I fully expect him too. Despite what you may think though, Heiskanen does not play at the same time as Benn/Seguin and co. That's all Klingberg all the time. He is being used strictly in a defensive role. He has a game in hand on Dahlin though ;)

The points will start to come for Miro. He does so many things right and plays such a smart game both ways. Should've had a couple of goals last game but Andersen robbed him

Dahlin's 2 way play has been solid. He is a more flashy offensive player than Heiskanen but like I said, Dahlin's offensive style is more similar to Klingberg (defense like Hedman though) while Heiskanen's is more similar to Karlsson.

He'll be Buffalo's best defenseman by Christmas and their best player before the end of the season. He's smarter than Eichel and more driven.

All the things you list are not worth much. It has to do with how a coach decides to deploy a player and different coaches are going to have wildly different ideas about how a teenaged D should and shouldn't be used in their first weeks and months in the NHL.

Also things like zone starts are going to change dramatically every game at the start of the season. As of right now at 5v5:

Dahlin 42.6% OZ starts - 2nd highest DZ% starts among D on his team.
Heiskanen 48.8% OZ starts - 4th highest DZ% starts among D on his team.

I think he's their best defenseman already, at least in terms of how he plays when he's on the ice. On the other hand, he's probably not ready to handle big minutes just yet.

He already is - his passing as well. It does appear that he's shoring up his defensive work first and adjusting to the smaller rink, faster pace, and quality of competition compared to what he's seen in Sweden. As many have said, once he's confident in his defensive role, the offensive confidence will follow.

It's funny how the other player is suddenly better than the other as soon as they score one point and the other one doesn't. It's all Laine vs Matthews here.

He's already our best defensive d-man. I was actually worried about his defensive play coming into the season, but he's so calm in the defensive zone. We've seen flashes of his offensive ability here and there, but that will definitely come in time.

Imagine thinking PK time matters.

Imagine thinking someone is a two-way defender, who is generational, but doesn't play in all situations.

Something doesn't add up. Either he isn't two-way or he isn't generational.

Having your best players kill penalties is a huge waste. Any third pairing scrub can kill penalties. I'd rather give Dahlin a couple extra 5on5 shifts where he can make an impact on both ends.

this thread is filled with fins and stars fans claiming that heiskanen is better because HAD 1 more point than dahlin. now that dahlin has 1 goal you guys are saying " ehhhh hes not g0Od defensively doe" HE jake GARDINER :p?" seriously get a grip, everyone know dahlin is something special expect you guys apparently. now can we please just talk about Dahlin instead of comparing O-zone starts in a 4-5 game sample size
