Why didn't Holmgren take him last year when he had the chance? He is many light years ahead of Sam Morin.

Plain and simple the Flyers have NEVER been a team to go after Russians early in the draft. They almost exclusively target Canadian CHLers in the early rounds, with a few exceptions withstanding ala Peter Forsberg.

2 goals and an assist puts him at 11 goals and 13 assists in 25 games this year.

Loving his offense(specifically his goal scoring) develop this year.

Kids gonna be a beast in the NHL one day.

Haven't watched him too much (limited mostly to this year's WJC). Obviously I noticed him dominating the US with his shot. Offensively he looked great. Is his defense very strong too? Asking out of curiosity.

Defense is great!! He was projected to be a shutdown guy at the draft.

Still think that he will be the best defensemen taken out of the 2013 draft. Guys with his mean streak AND talent are extremely rare.

I think it's possible too. He has so many high end skills. If he can put them together and developes more defense awareness he's going to be special. It's a still an if though. He's fun to watch at any competitive level

Zadorov posted impressive time at the Top Prospects skills competition.

Nathan MacKinnon used home ice to show the speed he’s been using to menace defenders this season with the Halifax Mooseheads. He covered 30 metres in just 3.918 seconds – and was even faster with the puck, at a blistering 3.893 seconds. Just 3 other skaters also clocked under four seconds: Nikita Zadorov of the London Knights, with Samuel Morin and Frederik Gauthier of the Rimouski Oceanic. Zadorov’s speed and agility are particularly impressive given his 6’5â€, 221 lb. frame. He also topped the backwards skating sprint at just over 4.5 seconds, with and without the puck.

That is insane.

Monster size
Fluid / fast skating
Very good positional defender
Nasty / Physical edge to his game
Booming shot
Putting up a hair under PPG

:amazed:

Great selection at 16 overall!

He is a strong skating, big physically punishing, two way d man. Great tools and offensive side of his game is developing very well.

Defiantly my favourite d man of the draft.

I'm hoping years later people will look back at this draft and the first thing they think is "Buffalo got Ristolainen and Zadorov in the same draft???" ala Anaheim with Getzlaf and Perry.

Fantastic defensemen. I was hoping for the Jets to take him, but looking out how Morrissey is turning out I guess they couldn't have gone wrong either way.

I think his defensive game was always somewhat underrated because they thought the meanstreak was his main playing style. He's really much more of a positioning style defensemen, similar to Chara, use your size and stick to frustrate forwards (plus his great skating) and then occasionally throw an absolutely booming hit.

It's funny how Jets fans are black and white on this. Some were ecstatic that we didn't touch Zadorov, wonder how they feel now?

I preferred Zadorov myself.

I think if Buffalo had to do it over again they would have selected Nichuskian at 8 and zad at 16. That would have been sick

That was exactly the combination I wanted then. I'll live with Risto and Nikita I guess. Sam Reinhart won't look bad here either.

Mean streak might be an understatement. Here's Zadorov handing out some love on Valentine's day :

He showed that offensive side in the NHL too, if anything it was his defensive game that wasn't ready.

He's nearly a PPG in Juniors, no way he showed the same in the NHL, not nearly enough of a sample size.

He's going to be a good one though.

What's the likelihood he's in the NHL next season?

I honestly don't know. Looking at other 19 year old defensman in the NHL (Troyba,Maata,Murray,Lindholm,Rielly) its possible, however I think GMTM,LaLa and co. Will keep him in juniors one more year.. McCabe,Kea,Locke will likely turn pro so I don't know, anything is possible

What's the likelihood he's in the NHL next season?

Hard to say. I think he'll get a 9 game tryout for sure. The new management and coaching staff seem to prefer letting prospects develop in lower leagues, but right now Zads progression is actually reminiscent of Myers, although they play different styles.
