His game is very junior hockey. Lot of talent but sooo much to improve. So far for me he's a boom/bust prospect, now it's leaning more to bust. He needs a very good development year next season, Provorov-like. Windsor should tell him to focus more on defense. And sometimes it feels like he's lazy and doesn't want put too much effort into his game. Maybe that's not true but sometimes it surely looks that way.

I've only seen him play 7/8 times.
But I see the same thing.

I think you guys are being harsh. One of the penalties was dumb, but I feel he's been solid in his zone.

He just had an amazing breakout a minute ago. Also had a quality rush up ice early in the 3rd.

It's clear he has way more leeway to get into the offence when playing for Windsor.

Also Button has just been praising him non-stop.

He has actually redeemd himeslf a bit in the last game. One of the reasons it was close. There were for once two good D-men(I do not blame the other 1999 guys here. They might just need a year of time).

Looked pretty good in this one game, like the guy he was expected to be. Good decisions defensively and he pinched pretty well too. Maybe it was adjustment and the pressure.

Anyway, he has a lot of time in juniors still to prove his worth.

I have a feeling Sergachyov just might have ran out of gas a bit: compare 77 games total this season with 49 games last season - the difference is pretty noticeable.

He's good, but I wouldn't draft him. He reminds me of Zadorov from what I've seen, very inconsistent and non chalant in his play. Too many other good options at 8.

Especially when you see his last name.

Sergachyov has been ranked #8 at the latest Bob McKenzie's scout survey, that's just behind Juolevi and ahead of Chychrun.

From the article:

Sergachev’s highest rank was No. 6; seven of 10 scouts had him in their Top 10 but only two ranked him as the top defenceman in the draft.

Only second rookie in history who won it. First was Berard in 1995.
Both did it at 17, almost all high-end Canadians play in the league at 16, so thats a bit misleading. For example Ryan Ellis and Ekblad (his rookie year he was 15) won it at 17, while Pronger and Doughty won it in there draft years (both late birthdays).

Sergachev is a big guy though as shown by his combine measurements.

I think he'll end up the best of the top-3 d-men in this years draft. It was his first season on the smaller rinks and more important in a very different culture at that young age. I'd me more than happy if the Habs select him at no. 9.

This is the player I want the Sabres to get at 8. I feel like Murrey is going to trade the pick though. If the Sabres do get him I will be ecstatic.

I'd be really happy if the Habs draft him even if we need to improve our offense more than our defense.

Sergachyov would be a perfect replacement for Markov in 2 years.

Sergachyov - Subban
Beaulieu - Petry

I like this as a top4!

I've read in the 2016 NHL Draft Combine thread that Sergachyov was one of the players with the highest Body Fat indexes. This could be a problem as the nearly 20 pounds difference may not be all muscle?

Or if he is already so good without proper physical development, training can only make him better, as opposed to some with NHL-ready bodies. Unless he has serious weight/work ethic questions (no indication he does...like a Sean Day), it is such a minor minor concern. I doubt anyone who looks at Sergachyov thinks he's remotely overweight anyway.

He was like what, 12%? There's nothing wrong with that for a hockey player tbh. Everything is relative.
If he was like 20% or something then there's a problem. Somewhere between 8-12 is fine for hockey, especially given he has no pro training or conditioning.

Doesn't bother me. Doesn't seem to bother him. Sounds like more potential to me.

I believe he was around 12-13% yes. I'm not trying to be a detractor of Sergachyov, and I haven't read about any work ethic concerns the likes of Sean Day. I actually read the other day that he wanted to play for the U-18 Russia team because he felt a responsibility to after what they had already done for him to this point in his career. He seems pretty legit as far as prospects go. I'm not sure we will see him jump to the NHL right away as some reporters have commented he might be the most NHL ready D-Man in the draft, but I do think he could end up being the best D-Man in the draft a few years down the line.

Segachev

Are people sleeping on this guy?

He won top Defenseman in the OHL as a 17 y/o which is a rare feat. Not to mention it was his first year on the small ice.

He scored a ton of points (albeit with what some may call a favorable shooting %) and by all accounts is quite physical, defensively sound and is great on his edges.

I could see the Canucks taking him at 5 if PLD is gone.

I was extremely high on him around December/January but im not really sure about him anymore. He has great tools but towards the last few months of the season his play wasn't good, he was very inconsistent and had poor d-zone coverage, he was just playing very lazy and that's a huge red flag for me.

It's hard to lose bad habits like that.. and all this is coming from someone who loved this kid up until 3-4 months ago. I've been following him since the U17's and i've seen him play over 20 times this season (not counting his international games), he has great upside but he's a risky pick aswell.

Do you think the fact that it's his first yr in North America may have had something to do with that?

Do you think his raw skill are better than Chychrun and Juolevi?

How bad we talking with that attitude?

Also do you think he deserved to be OHL defenseman of the year?
