Saw him live for the first time in Saginaw's first pre season game. Was really impressed with him last night. Skates extremely well for a big man. Uses his size in a very smart way. Suffocating at times.

Thanks for the report. Niemeläinen is one of the guys I'm most intruiged with in the CHL for the coming season. I'll try and keep a close eye on him and see how he does. Pretty enticing package.

After a tough start to the season, Niemeläinen had 4 assists and +4 in the last two games.

Season totals: 10 games, 7 assists -4

Listed as 6'6 195 in the OHL website. Kid just keep growing.

I visited Saginaw's website yesterday.
And there Niemeläinen was, measured for 6'5.

How sure those OHL measurements, usually are?

Don't know really. He was listed 6'4 for most of last season and suddenly he is 6'6 when he gets to North America. Might be some air in those measuruments.

That's not too farfetched, I know a lot of athletes there have their heights meassured with their gear(aka shoes) on. And I heard an American once say "I'm 6'1 with shoes on"....

Which round is he going to be drafted in?

11 points in 14 games for him in the OHL. Is there anyone who thinks he could be 1st rounder? Maybe Zadorov like prospect if he continues to adapt and develope at this pace?

Niemeläinen could be, anything between late 1st rounder and early 2nd rounder.
Markus is smooth skater, and very mobile two-way defenceman.

He reminds a lot young Rasmus Ristolainen.
But he could be better, than Rasmus.

I don't know is Niemeläinen, participating into world juniors in Helsinki.
But U18 WJC's he'll be in the Finland's team, if he's available.

It really is fun to watch him play. At the start of the year I had my doubts about what his offensive ceiling would be but he has adjusted nicely already as mentioned. The best way I can describe it is that he is quietly efficient.

I don't see Ristolainen comparisons. Ristolainen can control the game in so many way at high level. I don't see same ability in Niemeläinen. I see more like #3-4 defensive defenseman who plays smart, has smooth skating and breakout pass. He could add like 30-40 points for season. Ristolainen is already #1 in a bad defence but has potential to be elite #1 defenceman once he get's it going. Niemeläinen is way better defensively that Ristolainen was at same age. He is rock solid and seems to produce. Every team needs defenceman like that.

Defensive defenseman with 30-40 points sounds more than just #3-4. Or maybe your were referring to Beauchemin in 2006-2007 behind Niedermayer and Pronger

I've only seen him a few times.

Reminds me of Henrik Tallinder. But you can tell he's growing. Seems sort of uncoordinated at times.

I predict that the Winnipeg Jet's will trade Andrew Ladd and get at 1st round pick and select Markus Niemelainen - LHD with this pick. The Jets are very light of the LD and Winnipeg has always loved Finish players. My favorite two are Teppo Numminen and Teemu Selanne. Fin's and Swede's are loyal and down to earth type of people. It's not just about money for these passionate players.

Hope you're kidding...

Hey, I'm all for it, I'm a Finn and I don't really have a favorite NHL team, but I really do like the Jets. That said, Ladd for Niemeläinen seems a bit drastic.:sarcasm:
