I feel for Vancouver fans, LOL. This will induce great anxiety for years to come.
Not really. By the time he's a UFA he will probably have already started putting down roots while living in a city that is rated the most desirable in NA. In fact If I were to play devils advocate I would say Jack and Like will join Quinn. Nothing against NJ but if your young rich and athletic, not many cities can offer the beach and mountains within an hour of each other.
It's a nice thought but far-fetched, but they still have international events to look forward to

Uhhhhh.

New Jersey is literally lined with beaches. If Jack and Luke decide to settle down and buy houses in Short Hills, NJ, which is in the general area a lot of Devils players move, you are a 50-minute drive from Long Branch, NJ (which is just one of many great beaches lining the coast of New Jersey), and 1 hour and 30 minutes from the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania, so Vancouver really isn't so special in that regard. Not to mention that New Jersey itself is rich with tons of great hiking trails and beautiful outdoor spaces scattered in between these two destinations. You get to have easy access to one of the greatest cities in the world and the plentiful entertainment opportunities that come with it. You are selling New Jersey insanely short here.

Don’t be ridiculous…all of NJ just looks like Newark and is run by the Soprano crime family. I know this because someone on the internet who lives in Nebraska and has never even been to the east coast told me so.

Dear God, look at a map once in a while, what an amazingly bad take.

As someone who grew up in Vancouver, Ill say this. Vancouver is in reality a mid-sized city. If you’re young and rich, chances are you’ll prefer a legitimately large city, such as LA, Chicago, or New York…which is just a few minutes drive from New Jersey. They are a level above in terms of nightlife, events, etc than Vancouver. Just my experience.

But Vancouver is a much more beautiful city than the 3 you mentioned and it’s not even close. These guys aren’t living in Surrey lol. Anyways, It’ll be interesting to see what chemistry there is with Jack and Luke. Maybe having his younger brother on the team will boot Jack into the next level.

Funny you talk about long branch, the girl Jack is with currently is from the Monmouth beach area I think. Friend of a younger cousin

Being familiar with both geographies, lol. NJ has nothing on Vancouver, except for proximity to NYC, which also isn’t for everyone. West coast geography is infinitely more beautiful than East Coast. Possibly a subjective statement but I don’t think you’ll find many who disagree.

You really know all about New Jersey! I guess with your extensive knowledge, you showed us.

The most important when you select a player is their mental profile considering the negotiations to sign big contracts.

This is the factor that made Boston successful.

Sportingly, NJ needed a right-handed defender like Clarke more.

By selecting Luke Hughes, NJ increases his chances of signing Jack and then Luke at a good price.

Jack Hughes will be less demanding during negotiations in 2022 because he will be more loyal to the franchise.

By selecting Luke Hughes over another, NJ saved money. And strengthened the cohesion of the group.

More skeptical of Vancouver with Quinn. I won't be surprised if Quinn tries to provoke a trade to bring him to NJ.

I don't really buy the "Quinn will force himself to NJ" narrative. Absolutely, playing with his 2 brothers would be a dream and I'm sure there is some element of jealousy/missing out... but he's still up to make millions in an environment he's already settled in.

I also don't think it would be via trade given the timing and all. Luke is 2-3 years away so not like there's any urgency. I do think Quinn's upcoming contract will be interesting.. how many UFA years does he get bought out? Does he put himself in a position to get to UFA as quickly as possible? He's already accrued 2 professional years so a 4-5 year deal puts him on the precipice of UFA (or RFA where he can force UFA).

Come on, man. Everyone knows that in the first picture the ladies are running from the great trash avalanche of 2012.

And that the 2nd picture is of a perfectly covered New Jersey landfill.

:sarcasm:

I watched Quinn a lot in the draft. I seemed to feel a certain temptation.

New Jersey has a lower salary cap than Vancouver. In 2022, the money released with the end of Subban's contract will make it possible to invest in Jack Hughes without increasing the current NJ's cap. While Vancouver does not really have a heavy contract at the end and Petterson, Q. Hughes and Boeser, to resign. There is not enough space to sign the 3 at a high price. New Jersey can absorb Quinn Hughes at 8-9 million with no problem.

Well we've got like three pages of Cam Fowlercomparisons and three pages of... whatever is happening above this comment.

Last year, Michigan's defensive pairings were

Cam York - Keaton Pehrson
Owen Power - Nick Blankenburg
Jacob Truscott - Jack Summers

My guess is that the Power/Blankenburg pairing probably takes on more responsibility, and Hughes fills in the hole left by York next to Pehrson.

For reference, Keaton Pehrson isn't a player with NHL buzz, but he's a good meat and potatoes NCAA defenseman with plenty of experience who should help Hughes with the transition to higher level hockey.

While Hughes, as a top 5 pick, likely has the inside track to top 4 responsibilities with powerplay time, I think Truscott will provide some competition there as well. He's a solid defenseman.

Michigan should be a pretty exciting team to watch next year, I'd recommend tuning in some time if your team has a prospect at U of M.

I’m really excited to see Luke Hughes outplay Power. I think by the end of the season, Hughes gets more minutes. He’s just faster and is able to move the puck better IMO.

Am I the only one who wouldn't want to play with my brothers? I don't get the appeal. I love my siblings, but I don't like mixing a professionally competitive atmosphere with family all that much.
I've thought this too for brothers that play the same position like Luke and Quinn - they both play LD and they'd be fighting for powerplay time and therefore contract dollars. Doesn't seem like a healthy thing.

I think siblings that play different positions and aren't competing for ice time is fine but I don't think all 3 brothers on the same team would actually work that well. Certainly not while developing.
