I'm excited to talk about Hutson here. I know people are split on whether he's even on Montreal or AHL, but I think he's going to have a big season in Montreal and contend for the Calder.
We just have to wait to see how the pre season plays out. We don't know how hard the other young dmen come out of camp. Big question mark on the right side and then it's playing chess.

Yep. By no means do I think he's a lock, but I personally want him on the team and I think he'll have a great season if he makes the team.

There are many factors that could determine wether he will be in the Calder race or not :

1. If mtl's pp1 consists of 4 forward and 1 defender then he would have to take Matheson's spot. If he does then yeah, he would have good odds to be in the Calder race. But good luck dethroning Matheson.

If mtl's pp1 consists of 3 forwards and 2 defenders then his odds of being in the Calder race would be good. But that would mean that either Caufield or Laine would be relegated the 2nd pp unit.

If he plays on the 2nd pp unit then his odds are severely lowered.

Yeah he's a lock. The Canadiens players went on the record telling journalists he's going to win the Calder this year, when has that ever happened? There's a ton of excitement around this guy going on with the team.

And there's reports we're going to start with 8 defensemen.

He’s a lock to make the team for sure. I thought his last two games at the end of last year he was out of position in the D zone too often but that can be (easily) taught and cleaned up. I see no reason for him to go to Laval

I mean no reason ? Experience/ conquering that level ? I think he cracks the squad but imo it’s not a disaster if he spends time in the A . Never a bad thing ( within reason) to get some seasoning. Is Laine or Caufield on PP 2 an actual possibility ? Figured both were locks on the top unit

I don't think he needs to dethrone Matheson, I think Habs need to plan past Matheson.

I'd put Hutson on PP1 to help prepare for the near future when Matheson isn't a Hab anymore.

I dont understand why some people dont think things out. Last year the habs only had 1 good line, Cauf suzu ans slaV. so if the penilty was called at the end of their shift that 1st line needs to sit for 3-4 minutes to recharge, so NO REAL PP. same idea for math and hutson one of them will be fresh at the start of any PP. Now for the last part, in the last 5 minutes and the habs down by 1 and they need to tie the game, so defence is not important Habs can ice cauf, suzu, slav, lanie, hutson and math ( no goalie) thats a lot of FIREPOWER to get the tie goal. Just think how the leafs or oil or tampa can put their top 6 for the PP blitz. Habs lost 30 games last year by 1 goal due to young dmen and almost no offence due to massive injuries.
