I’ve seen him play.

Here is what I wrote on twitter when he was drafted into the USHL:

Then here are a few of his assists from a while back. I don’t think any were primary assists but they showed he can jump start an offence and provide much needed support from the blueline.

How likely is he to actually make the jump if he's already locked up quite a few years? I love his size and nose for net mentality but the Russian/Euro factor for anything that's not a top 15 talent scares the shit out of me still if I'm honest. I know more euro players have come over in recent years but I always wonder about how we know if they want to make that jump or not from Euro to NA hockey.

It’s American players NHL teams should be worried about nowadays, not Russians lol

Quiet thread for a potential first rounder. How is he doing this season?

Was really excited about him in his DY-1; skating, handling, physicality, all very good. The issue is his hockey sense. He's good for one or two standout plays a game, but he's a serious project. Defensive positioning leads to a ton of chances against. Overaggressive to make plays to stop zone exits, steps up well past the defensive blueline to try to make early stops, and the overall instincts just aren't there to be a stopper on defense. He's a player where you have to take a very small percentage of his plays and try to get him to build upon those, the unfortunate part is that he's very sloppy outside of the high-end flashes. I don't think there's enough to go off of to target him as a first rounder, but there's definitely upside in a 6-foot-4 defender who moves as well as he does.

Reminds me a little bit of Mukhamadullin his draft year. A lot of base tools and athleticism to work with, but his decision making is a big work in progress.
