LD Kashawn Aitcheson - Barrie Colts, OHL (2025 Draft)

Does this guy need some more love here? He's showing up in early 2025 projection lists around the 15-25 range of the first round.

He's not that big but I'm assuming he plays with a nasty disposition given his PIMs. 39 points in 64 games in his first full OHL season along with 126 PIMs...to go along with 4 points in 6 games in the playoffs with another 17 PIM.

Is he just a fiery two-way junior player or are we looking at a legit high-end first round prospect here?

My guess is he benefitted and received a bigger role on that team than was expected last year as a result of Beau Akey getting injured.

But that said, he really seemed to make the most out of that opportunity, which not all younger players can.

I for one am really interested to see what he can do next year, and also think he may be someone being slept on.

For me he raised his profile more than anyone on the CHL team relative to prior to the event. After what I thought was a fairly ho hum u18, he played like a lunatic that had escaped from an asylum with his extremely high level of physicality and competitiveness. Didn’t hurt that he contributed offensively as well. Perhaps not the most dynamic player but smart and physical, the type of player NHL GMs will have higher on their list than the general public

Does anyone who watches Barrie regularly know what kind of PP time/role Aitcheson is getting?

His stats don't jump off the page, especially being an '06 born, but I'm curious if Akey and Bertucci are taking most of the PP opportunity.

How does Aitchenson compare to Solberg? Both have similar size, shot, and are very physical. Aitchenson plays in minors so he gets more offensive opportunities, and he definitely is more of a fighter. But how do their skills and skating compare? It’s tough to compare them while in different leagues, but Solbergs skating and agility appear more impressive especially when he was able to show it in WC level competition.

I’m guessing Aitchenson will get selected earlier in a draft that has less depth. Aitchenson projects to be a Bieksa/Trouba guy.

I have not seen him play enough to say if this comp works well or not, but from a height/weight/production standpoint he seems kind of similar to Provorov.

Probably will be picked more in the teens or early 20’s.

Just thought they had some similarities from a frame perspective and guys that play with some physically and give you offense. Decent skaters.

Provorov was a superior prospect, to be sure.

I've heard a lot that Aitcheson is elite in terms of physical shape (cardio, strength, etc). However, I see that stats wise he's pretty good for a 17 years old D in the CHL. How do you guys see his offensive upside?
