One of my biggest sleepers in this years draft, he missed the season due to a knee injury but he still got an invite to the combine (meaning scouts have him on their radar).

He was extremely impressive at Hlinka, i think he might surprise alot of people by going early in the draft (early 3rd or maybe even in the 2nd).

3 goals and 7 assists in 10 games so far. red deer has scored 41 goals in 12 games. kind of stands out to me that he is factoring in on almost a quarter of their goals, anyone get any extended views yet?

He dropped the gloves and won a fight against 6`3 Wagner as well recently

It`s way too early to tell but looks like another great defenseman prospect taken by Ducks. He had a good preseason games as well as much as I read and heard. I just want him to have a full healthy season and let`s see where he`s at after it. So far he`s exceeding the expectations to say the least

3rd leading D scorer in the WHL and 2nd in goals. he has strung together 3 straight 1+1 performances and in the games he's played he's factored in on over 30% of red deer's goals, i wasn't expecting high offensive upside out of him but he's an intriguing prospect just because there is so little known about him

At this point, being taken by the Ducks in the draft as a defenseman alone should see a prospect have a huge bump in value.

2+1 tonight gives Mahura 7+11 in 14 games. Has anyone seen this kid play, because this is a massive increase in production.

hes going to be a steal... before the draft happened I kept saying whoever ends up taking him will get a massive steal and ofcourse the Ducks have added yet another unreal young player to their organization

they did it again jimmy, every year they seem to find a dman that outplays his draft position/expectations. there was some hype on the down low for this kid but i don't think anyone expected this type of production

I haven`t liked some of his defensive work but offensively he is a true treat to watch. Would love to hear some OHL/Red Deer fan giving his insight on the overall picture.

Wish the Ducks could do that on forwards and goalies as well. But the last two drafts look very promissing so far.

Mahura was a huge gamble but I love this pick. He will get at least additional 2 years to develop.

Mahura, standing at 9 goals and 24 assists for 33 points in 39 games, apparently has been traded to the high-scoring Regina Pats and joins fellow Ducks prospect Sam Steel. :)

here are 4 of Reginas dmen stats(including Mahura)

Mahura - 39gp. 33pts.
Hobbs - 35gp. 44pts
Harrison - 33gp. 33pts.
Zborovskiy - 29gp. 32pts.

142 points between them in less than a half a season

As if the Pats lineup wasn't ridiculous enough this season

Im actually surprised they acquired him. Sure hes such a good player, but they gave up a huge package for him... and IMO scoring from the back end is something they don't need at all.

But hey, adds major excitement!!!

what else is cool about this deal though is the fact that Mahura will be back next year and Regina will once again be unreal

Hes been arguably our most impressive player through rookie camp, rookie tourny and also looking great at training camp.... looking like a great value pick from anaheim

Vatanen getting more and more expendable by the month. We already had winners in Theodore and Montour (and seems like Larsson could join that ilk) but Mahura definitely seems like he could at worst be a bottom pair powerplay specialist.

Any chance mathura or steel stay with Anaheim at least until WJC?

Pretty slim odds. Steel could get 9 games but I think he needs more seasoning. Mahura i don't know if he's NHL ready but there's only room in theory for him because of the injuries on Anaheim's blueline but that won't last.

The Pats will be an absolute force next year if those guys are back.

The Memorial Cup is held in Regina next year too, watched the Pats lots last year living in western Canada and Steel was a beast. That team was stacked.

Mahura i doubt unless bieska and larsson are missing time but i think they both should be healed and ready to go at season start, guessing the d looks likes
Fowler manson
Beauchmin montour
Larsson bieska

Pettersson has also been impressive and could def see him getting a spot if larsson or bieska are out.

Steel might get a 9game trial because kesler is injured, assuming he looks deserving of 1 in lreseason ... right now it sounds like rakell is playing center so our centers go getzlaf rakell vermette rassmussen... might be hurting for offense to start the season so might give steel a shot.
