well u18 is one series, so idk.

It is but it is super important for Swedish players. I've heard all year from people that liked Willander more than ASP or just spoke really highly of Willander in general. But you have no idea where to rank him relative to the bulk of NA prospects. Then he comes over for the big tournament and shuts down the best NA players. It should prompt a major change in his rankings.

To get back on track - the tournament would have been super important for Simashev too, he might have changed his ranking significantly.

I’m extremely curious where this guy will end up going in the draft. If he weren’t playing in Russia (where he’s difficult to scout live, never mind the off-ice risks), I feel like he could go as high as 11th. With all the fear and trepidation around drafting Russians playing in Russia, I’m praying he falls to the Sharks at the Devils pick (likely ~27th or so).

Good luck with that.

Seem like a player that teams will reach on as early as 15.... sharks do have the ability to potentially move up (or karlsson trade :naughty:)
Yeah, that’s why it was a hope and a prayer. Simashev is awesome, but I’m hoping the “””Russian factor””” will let him drop to us. It’s a stupid reason for a player to drop, but if he does, I hope we snatch him up at 26th.

He looks smooth but doesn't even produce at the junior level. Is he good defensively?

He's arguably the best pure defensive d-man in the draft, and has shown some intriguing untapped offensive skills the 2nd half of the season.

With his size, skating and defensive awareness he probably has the highest floor of any draft eligible defenseman.

I don't think he's going to be a big points guy. The shot is bad. But he is an ice tilter, he'll help the offense by skating pucks into the offensive zone.

I see him as the perfect compliment for a #1 offensive dman. He can lock-down the defensive responsibilities, skate with the puck when need be, eat up minutes like crazy.

Would be perfectly happy if the Canucks took him at 11th.

Easily the best defensive game and defensive attributes in the draft. He is an Eraser when it comes to the offensive play of the opponent

His offensive game is boom or bust at this point. but if it booms, watch out.

Even if his offence doesnt translate, likely you have a young Gavrikov/Ekholm in your pipeline.

I have a feeling Detroit takes Simashev at 6 or where ever they pick. He seems like the type of defenseman Detroit would consider. Him and Seider beside each other in the future would be absolute trouble.

Good to hear you are excited about DSimashev but I think the Red Wings take a Forward at numero 6 and then maybe go after Simashev in the second round if he's available

Detroit is picking 9th and has Edvinsson, Wallinder and Johansson in the pipeline on the left side, so it's safe to say LD isn't a need. But I'm sure if he got picked at 9, no Wings fans would complain and will trust the Yzerplan.
At what point will people stop trusting this plan? It’s been a hell of a long rebuild and they still need a bunch of pieces.
