When Kiviharju has signed his ELC NHL team decides where Kiviharju plays

San Jose Sharks took Kasper Halttunen out of HIFK
and put him to London Knights and now it looks being right move.

That's not correct, players under 24 that weren't drafted in the first round have to be returned back to their European teams if that team so wishes. Obviously it does not mean that they must receive these players, Halttunen simply wasn't good enough for HIFK.

I don’t think this’ll go over well in this thread with the outrage, but he was coming off an ACL tear or something like that. It’s probably best to let him play a couple months of hockey before having too strong of an opinion on how he’s progressing in the last year. Most players who miss a lot of time with such a serious injury need a little time to regain their form.

Thank you. It is nice to see one positive comment in this thread. I get he probably isn't gonna go as high as he had potential for but he has gotten way too much hate. Next year will tell which direction his development will go when he has an NHL team in the background.

This is true but he was stagnating well before the injury. I never thought his game would translate to a higher level but I thought the same about Cole Hutson so I will concede that maybe the kid can still turn it around.
 
Think he's one of the most underrated and slept on prospects in the draft.

I thought he honestly played well at the start of the season, but he has not looked remotely the same since injury.

That's not ideal, certainly. But plenty of players lose time or development to injury or covid and made it out just fine, and I don't see a world in which he doesn't develop into a great PPQB and two way player, he has all the tools to succeed and there's no reason he shouldn't. He's either going to look really really good in a few years of development or completely flicker out.

Look at HIFK's roster this year and Haltunnen's age this isn't even opinion, there are guys putting up single digit points and they aren't grinders. Haltunnen was Londons best playoff performer and over a ppg in the O this year.

I guess they didn't expect him to grow into his frame and make any sort of progression. It seems like really, really poor management to let 18 year old big frame skilled power forwards to just walk so you can skate Teissala, who sucks. Is Tallberg some kind of defensive forward specialist? One thing I could see is Haltunnen's weakness does seem to be skating and it is bigger ice.

Any sort of progression just isn't always enough when you're playing for a pro team rather than a developmental organization. Once he signed his NHL ELC the team already got their $285 000. At that point developing the player further doesn't bring in another dime, it's only about whether he can deliver here and now.

Tallberg is a two-way workhorse that never takes a shift off and gets the little things right, has had some trouble with injuries recently which has limited his offensive production.

Hindsight is 20/20 I guess but fair enough just think that the leap this year was fairly predictable. Hope Kiviharju can stay healthy and turn it around, injuries are no joke.

Staying healthy in Kiviharju's case is easier said than done.
Keep in mind that HIFK has been most injury prone SM liiga team last 10 yrs or so.
