Their powerplay is only 21st in League this season. Maybe not boot Ghost from top PP right away, but Nikishin should at least get a look at some point.

He's 25 points in 21 games in 2025. DeAngelo left the team in January.

Respectfully, Canes defense at the moment is probably well on the outside of the league’s top 5. Slavin is one of the best in the league, Walker and Chatfield are decent. Burns is terrible, Ghost is a liability, Orlov is more bad than good these days.

Honestly not familiar enough league wide to comfortably say st the moment, maybe the loss of Skjei and Pesce has swung my view too far in the negative direction. Most fans on our group will tell you they don’t really love our group of six, but we’ve been spoiled lately.

Nikishin is going to be a Star in no time...Hurricanes might as well not have a bunch of their D-men back...Burns can retire...Orlov probably stays for transition but then again they have Svechnikov and other Russian...Kochetkov and who knows who else is on the way...like to know if he gets a ELC he deserves more than that he's not a real rookie but a battle tested veteran of the KHL "wars"!!!Wonder if Artamanov comes over in a years time and what of Krutov and Pelevin...the Hurricanes have drafted 13 Russians in 3 years and I bet they dratf more in 2025...As for Nikishin I see a thought of Sergei Gonchar in him maybe better

IMO he immediately steps into this league as a top 15 Defenceman, which is incredible. Great for Russian hockey too as we’re used to seeing them pump out incredibly skilled forwards only in recent times.

It's partly his draft position/limited pre-draft hype, partly because he's Russian and partly because he's a Cane.
