What happened to him this year? Very solid last few years.
Look at their depth chart.

He’s getting no icetime at all. Like a bazillion guys pushed him down. They have so many guys…

I’d take him in a heartbeat. He’s a 5v5 monster. Big dude. Great top 9 winger for a team like stl who wouldn’t need him to be some top line guy but also wouldn’t bury him behind a legion of young wingers.

With the season he’s having now and his contract, very little relative to what he can do. He’s a prime candidate to bounce back to his previous form in a different situation.

The current season aside, he's type of player NHL GMs trip over themselves for. I'm also interested in knowing what people think he'd fetch.

I think the ask would be a 1st + one of a clubs top prospects (from a value point, I have no idea what Utah's needs would be). He's got 2 years left @ 4.3m and any team getting him would be expecting him to bounce back, so I can't see the contract being viewed in any way a negative. This is a 20 goal, top 9 power forward for 3 runs for a contender. He's the type of guy I'd love to add up front for the Oilers. Even with a down season a team can likely find a buyer willing to overpay for him.

He really shouldn't be moved, unless some wants to pay for what he's done in the past, and not what hes done this year. That or in a package for another top 6 center to take pressure off Cooley.

Anyway, it does us no good to sell him at his lowest value in his career. His cap is no issue and he still plays fine, just no points right now.

No point in trading him, unless he goes in a package for top-6 center. Which is unlikely considering his play this season.

So what you're saying is a hockey trade one for one would probably make the most sense

what, a big bodied player that never met expectations, and cant score when given top mins/opportunities?
Hasn't he scored 20+ in the last two seasons? But overall we need a big physical player who can also play decent defense. Maybe a change of scenery will do him good, especially since he has already shown good results before.

stranger things have happened. sometimes 40 point 20 goal players get to play on McD's wing and score 50 in a career year, all you need is to get McD also.
