Look at this joke of a franchise. Best of luck to Gilman, good god.

It makes more sense now though. I knew there was no chance in hell that Gilman would be okay with those Sbisa and Dorsett contracts. He probably told Benning to shove it. Man, I wish I was there. Way to ruin a team Benning.

This is the 5th move I haven't liked since the end of the season-

Stewart signing- No justification for giving him a contract

Sbisa extension- abhorrent all the way around

Lack trade- pick wasn't high enough to justify the deal

Kassian- nowhere near enough in return to move the guy 7 years younger

Today- Gilman had to be left in charge of contracts/negotiating. Had a great track record there - no excuse to remove him from those duties, even if you're not going to listen to his opinions on player evaluation.

Crawford- not sure what to make of him. Tough to separate out who did what, but he was a big part of our scouting staff that got awful results.

Probably as disappointed with who wasn't fired(Delorme) as who was fired.

For me, drafting and development is what it's all about in the next handful of years. So I'm not sure if this will hurt in that regard or not. Because doing house cleaning in the organization with the worst drafting/development in the NHL over the last half dozen years seems pretty justified. Gillis said he had the biggest budget to play with of any team in the league, and adjusted for number and quality of picks, we got 30th place results. That's putrid with the resources at his disposal.

This is pretty terrifying in terms of what the contacts and negotiations will look like moving forward. But in terms of assessing talent, I'm not so sure they lost anything today. Never fealt Henning/Gilman were strong in this area.

Nice to see your coming around...

Let him earn it first. If he earns it, you can trade players afterwards. I doubt the returns then would be any worse than what we got now.

This should just be elementary.

The player I saw in the WHL this year is nowhere near ready to play in the NHL. That it seems we're handing him a roster spot is frankly terrifying - both for the team and for his development.

"Find more cap space to sign borderline NHLers!"

"We're running out of Gillis' guys without NTC, without moving some of the more expensive guys, or maybe some of your acquistions like Sbisa, Dorsett or Miller..."

"THEY ARE GODS! YOU'RE FIRED GILMAN, FOR MERELY SUGGESTING THIS!"

Seriously, best of luck to Henning, Gilman and Crawford, you helped make some entertaining hockey here.

Not really sad to see Gilman go because it was obvious that he wasn't being used at all the second those Sbisa and Dorsett extensions were handed out

Maybe Jonathan Wall will help in a higher position but I'm not holding out hope. The guy is supposed to be in charge of analytics and he let management sign Sbisa. That is as much an indictment on him as it is on the organization.

Where do you think Benning got his "Sbisa is 5th in giveaways" stat from? :sarcasm:

Just in case you were okay with the trades that were made Linden/Benning made sure to fire one of your favourite executives.

I really liked Eric Crawford, oh well.

This is why we can't have nice things.

They should fire Glen Carnegie next since he's a skills coach and all of our players lack some serious offensive skills.

Gilman was good at his job and he was fired.

If our players lack skill, that is a good thing for JB. He wants us to be bad. It's the only logical reason for giving sbisa a big contract.

Dana Murzyn has the early edge on Marek Malik as the skills coach replacement. This despite Malik's between-the-legs dangle in the shootout. (Conspiracy theorists says that it's because of the dangle that Malik is not the frontrunner.) Word is that Jimbo is placing a priority on teaching height.

Stewart started hockey at 12 more room to grow than 99.999% of prospects.

Sbisa was rushed into the league and is rebuilding his game to claim no potential is hilarious.

Lack most overrated goalie of all time 65th is fair and decent.

Kassian trade makes sense as his injury was beyond repair, rw is choked with virtanen and boesser. As well his attitude was getting tiresome. Ur 24 go to bed at 10.
It's very hard to take you seriously the way you're always so overly positive and apologetic about everything the team seems to do.

Edit: just out of curiosity, this is also Willie Desjarstache (sp?) right?

When it's that hard to take someone seriously don't quote them.

Linden said the people fired today weren't fired because of performance (good or bad)

This statement by Linden makes very little sense to me.
Why are they fired then?

Plus...
To go out and say that...
That is basically the smoking gun in an unlawful termination lawsuit.

Hah, like all the guys actually good at their jobs?

Interesting timing, the day after they told him the Kassian deal was ridiculous?
Linden said on 1040 that "there were to many voices".
Benning may be worse than Milbury ever was.
He will be gone in 2 years but we will have to live with his incompetence for years.
If i see him i will fight him!

Technically they're still being paid. They're just relieved of their duties.

This was apparently why they were fired (sounds to me like too many voices against Benning):

Too many voices so get rid of the ones that opposed lord benning. Makes sense. Now we get a bunch of guys thinking the same way.
