Laval Rocket: Laval Rocket at Charlotte Checkers 7:00 pm RDS/Flo

Don't write off Mailloux, he was obviously injured and showed courage not missing a shift. These kids did their best. Kudos to the Laval organization. They played their hearts out all season.

This.

Very positive improvement year over year with a lot of viable NHL prospects getting some good experience.

Most of them should be back primarily in Laval next year & it will be fun to see how they do with more of them having this experience under their belts.

Unless we trade him for another RD, just like Barron for Carrier
I think Mailloux has a lot more home run potential than Barron. He's still very young and missed two key development years and has come a long way. He's just scratching the surface and we need to be patient. It's so freaking hard to acquire RD with that size and those tools.

Since we're living in a complete troll universe,
I'm sure Jocelyn Thibault would've been amazing for Laval.
Holycow this dude is the next Patrick Roy.

The thing with Barron though is he's one of the fastest skaters in the entire NHL. Tough to find a RHD who can skate with that kind of speed. In hindsight, he probably should have been left with a solid coaching staff in the AHL for as long as he could.

I'm a Habs fan first and no one is untouchable in my eyes...including M

But if HuGo trades M and a 1st for a slug like Zegras, I will be furious. A trade for Dawson, OK, we need that, but no slugs.

Last time we made a stupid trade was Sergachev for Drouin. That turned out real well...said nobody in the universe.

Disappointed the Rocket season is over. I got a bit addicted to the team and of course M, R and LX.

Three months is a long time...and the max of ten games would be welcome. Although we may of not had any defenseman left...

I still think hes hella overrated by people around here.

So you've found a new whipping boy?

Reinbacher? Beck? Mailloux? Kapanen? Fowler? Florian? Tuch?

Well none seem ready to start on our 25/26 opening night roster.

For once I agree with you. Dobes has more potential imo. He has more dog in him. Fowler looks kinda soft and small in his net...

Dobes? Dobes? He's been figured out. Check his last few games. I think we may need a new goalie coach.

I have, but even so, im mostly talking about how hes penciled in as the de facto starter for us in 2026. Hes not that. He was a 3rd rounder.

And Dobes is 23 and I believe he has a better future.

So we're playing the pedigree game? Montembeault was also a 3rd Rounder and a Waiver wire pick up to boot. Primeau? 7th Rounder. Dobes? 5th Rounder.

Many say they expect Mailloux to be traded but we only have one sure thing right shooting NHL Dman on the big club in Carriere. We're already weak enough and thin at RD...

Still annoyed we traded Kovacevic for a 4th Rounder.

Well the Dach trade turned out super, really fixed our C sitch. And the Newhook trade really helped out, a 1st Rounder++ for a less good Paul Byron (waiver wire pick up.) Also the "let's get rid of the only other RD we have" for shiats and giggles, Kovacevic for a 4th Rounder.

The Newhook trade is understandable though since he used to be a Kent Hughes client and he probably wanted to do him a solid. Also trading Kovacevic instead of Struble, since Hughes has described Struble as a "son" and he was also a client.

Oh dear!! Hayes messed that one up. Not sure why the announcer blamed Fowler right off the bat. Fowler was going where it looked like the puck was going.
That's how I see it too. Fowler would have gotten there first if his defenseman didn't dive. Only when he dove, did Fowler start to hesitate, but it was too late anyway as Fowler had commited.

It was a low IQ play by the defenseman (who is not a prospect anyway) and a tough break for all, but ultimately just a fluke play.

Laval had 3 of their top 6 D out of the line up and it finally showed itself.

I think the team played much better yesterday. They were able to put on a lot of pressure, and we should be happy that the pressure was applied by guys like Roy and Kappanen, the team relief on its youth. Fowler was a much more effective goalie than Primeau at least for this series, and Reinbacher was an effective d. Engstrom skates like the wind. It helps him gain the zone, he'd benefit from a better shot. Beck showed a lot of tenacity, he wanted to win.

I didn't notice Xhekaj much. Maybe he was playing injured or less confident against a stronger team.

The forwards on this team were fully healthy as far as I know, but the D were missing several. That last goal against might not have happened if Trudeau rather than Hayes were playing.

Their 2nd scorer Dauphin and Simoneau were out. I'm also pretty confident several of them were not 100%.

lol no. If anything we've always had goalies do good here. The obvious ones in Price, Roy, Dryden, but also Theodore, Huet, Halak, Montambeault, Hackett, Moog... even Jocelyn Thibault, despite the criticism, did pretty ok here.
And Aebischer. The goalie we had for Theodore in the trade. He wasn't bad but wasn't that good too. Theodore was better.

Losing in 4 is not an issue. It's absolutely irrelevant. You cannot lose Wotherspoon, Trudeau, Dauphin and mid-game Lindstrom in an ALREADY young AHL team to one of the OLDEST team or more experienced, and think that losing yesterday and in 4 is indicative of ANYTHING.

But what you have to do is then individually look at players and see their progression but most importantly if they are at the point where they could bring up an extra gear to be permanent fixture in the NHL, and my answer (just mine, my evaluation) is No. Not Beck. Not Kapanen. Not Mailloux. Not Reinbacher. They WILL get their preseason games. For sure. No doubt. They have to. But if our team has really turned a certain corner, an intelligent GM will not wait to see if those guys are ready to make a move. Moves will be made already.

So 1 more AHL year of experience for all that are still there, a Fowler who will have the net permanent, and you might see the same core get even more playoff experience next year and there's nothing bad about it.

As far as Mailloux is concerned...I understand everybody's point. He is a righty. Towering one. Great shot. But I don't see the day where I won't be concerned about his IQ. And also, while somewhat understandable, the gap in quality from where he was paired with Trudeau and when he was not is....concerning. But players like that will always have value. Which brings me to....are we better served with waiting for him for us...or in a trade to somebody else. Mailloux is what Mesar isn't....a better value for others than for us. I'd deal Mesar WAY more than Mailloux....but right now, Mesar is an add-on. Mailloux could be close to a center piece.

Next year,s team has to be bigger. And should be with Goryunov, Dunlap, Dineen if they all make it. Hopefully they add to it. Hopefully they keep Wotherspoon (I'll mention it till it happens...hopefully i'm not jinxing it...).
