Laval Rocket: Laval Rocket at Charlotte Checkers 7:00 pm RDS/Flo

Definitely some positives.

Engstrom. Nice... real nice.
Beck and Roy stepped up eventually.
Kapanen looks like a C to me. I think he plays NHL next year.
Reinbacher was very effective and kept up with the physical play.
Mailloux was up and down but at times very impressive.
Tuch and Davidson were consistently hard to play against.
Mostly this team managed to do all this with a ridiculously young and inexperienced roster.

GREAT learning experience. Great year! Bravo to this team. I hope the coach comes back.

We'll see. Some will put the work in this summer and show improvement at camp. We should benefit from some organic development from players getting stronger physically, being more experiences and more polished skills and timing. Kapanen, Beck, Reinbacher and Mailloux are getting closer.

We can't judge a highly successful season based on one series where they were short staffed and overmatched.
I didn't judge them through this series only....it's just a clearer way to see it. Reinbacher played more playoffs games than regular season games. He needs another full season. There won't be a spot for Engstrom. I'M expecting Mailloux to be traded. Beck, I'd love to see him play a more offensive role in the AHL. Flo might be the outside chance to make it.....but I wouldn't do it just yet. I see nobody. Didn't see anybody even during that great regular season.

Just came back from a meeting....so....great for experience. But thank god it's done. There's a limit to what a team can do without players and as young as they are. Good year.

But guys....EVERYBODY in there is either gone (let go), traded or STILL in Laval. Nobody in there is Habs material next year. I just don't see it. And that's just my opinion.
Could be. If you mean full time members, it's possible... but I think a lot of guys will play games next year. I also think Kapanen will play close to a full season....

but you could be right and that's ok... the following year will be more important.

Once they gave up that 1st goal the tide turned and Laval had no answer. Roy and Beck had solid games, Fowler was good in a tough situation. The team was banged up for sure but really disappointing in all areas as they were out coached, out goalied, out hit, out worked, etc..

Hope Vincent, ABB, won't be back, I would easily bring Primeau back to backup Fowler, I hear they get along well. Hopefully management doesn't rush these kids as Kapanen, Engstrom, Beck, etc.. could all use more time in the AHL unless they have a great off-season.

Many say they expect Mailloux to be traded but we only have one sure thing right shooting NHL Dman on the big club in Carriere. We're already weak enough and thin at RD and Mailloux has size and tools and has had a couple of cups of coffee in the NHL. We drafted him as a raw home run swing with upside at a key position.

Cant blame Fowler for that last goal, Hayes with the failed clearing attempt caused that goal, Fowler went to play the puck at the same time Hayes dived so no chance at all.

A successful season overall for the farm, they just missed fuel at the end with all the injuries.

On the bright side:

-Dobes graduated

-Reinbacher came back after a knee surgury and played a signifiant amount of games for a couple of weeks, will he be ready next camp? We will see, but he isnt far from NHL ready.

-If Engstrom can clear some questionnable mistakes at times, we got a good NHLer there IMO, the skating/puckhandling combo is top 4 material. He had good playoffs from the games I watched and cut on those mistakes, so its promising.

-Mailloux got injured at some point, but had a good end of season, we will see what Hughes will do this summer, but I think hes got NHL potential.

Up front its thinner, but still some interesting players... I would say that Kapanen needs to bulk up if he wants a spot in the line-up next year, more finishing would be nice too.

Beck isnt ready, but I like his speed, motor, compete, needs to get stronger as well.

Xhekaj had a nice progression through the year, Im not expecting him to be ready next fall, but definitely someone who will crack the line-up at some point on the bottom 6.

Roy had some up and down, still needs to develop better consistency.

Davidson needs to add an extra gear to his skating.

Alright thats about it, dont know what Hughes will do this summer, but I presume we will see alot of action, stay tunned!

Excellent scouting report...impressive.

This says it all. But the passage of time will not assist all of them in making them effective, contributing NHLers.
well, no. The passage of time alone will only make them older as for anyone of us. But in combination with development and work, I image some of them will mature to become NHLers.

What I would do:

OUT (in trades or let go):
  • FORWARDS: ABB, Roy, Gignac, RHP, Kidney, Farrell (kid was great this year...but we need size, use his value in a trade)
  • D'S: Hayes, Mailloux (use the value he has), Hoefenmayer (Like him but no room)
  • G'S: Primeau and Hughes

IN
  • FORWARDS: Beck, Condotta, Davidson, Flo, Kapanen,Simoneau, Dauphin, Arseneau
  • D'S: Lindstrom (though I predict he's going back to Europe), Engstrom , Reinbacher, Wotherspoon
  • G's: Fowler and....Cavallin? If not a vet, maybe give a shot to Cavallin?

ADDED
  • Thorpe, Goryunov, Dunlap, Dineen (some Rocket/Trois-Rivières possibilities)
  • PLEASE!!! Rohrer (pretty please?)
  • Maybe??? Konyushkov?

NOT SURE
  • Mesar (as you all know, I gave up on him BUT he might have a great value for us and a real shot at a top 6 with the Rocke than any addition to a trade...
  • Trudeau (love the compete....but it might be time to move on). I guess it depends who comes in and what he'd want to do.
  • Tuch (a big body we need....but somehow, Never thought he had any kind of ceiling....and somehow, I think that what we see is the top he could ever give us. So keep him and place him on a 4th...but if you could do better...do better.

This was an ahl team full of veterants in Charlotte vs a very young team in Laval. I mean, this wasnt equal at all.

Favorite player :
- Engstrom. I like how he skates. Fluidity, offensive instinct. Can keep the puck.

- Reinbacher. I like Reinbacher. He is not the flashiest player. But every thing is done right. He is the youngest dman. He needs to be stronger, but with years its gonna be allright.

- Joshua Roy was playing intense. Thats the Joshua Roy I would like in Montreal. That sad, cause I think he is the kind of player we gonna lose for nothing and he is going to have an nhl career somewhere else.

- Logan Mailloux has an NHL career. I know some doubt about him, but I don't. He has offensive flair, physical and he is better in his zone. I don't know his futur role, but he has nhl upside I think

We need to draft some forward. There is nothing reallly exciting up front I would say

Unless we trade him for another RD, just like Barron for Carrier

Mesar should be moved if the plan next year does not resolve around placing him and developing him as 1st liner in the ahl and top 6 nhl

We need 2 x top 6 forwards and its hard to trade for them or even sign them, hes got the potential
