I’d rather be targeting Schenn but if the price is not too much it’s not a bad backup plan.
He’s the ideal.

Cost is much higher then Laughton in my opinion.

Hard deal to make Cap wise. St Louis would need to take on a couple guys like Jarnkrok and Kampf.

These selling teams also have to understand there is not a lot of first round picks that contenders can move. Lots have already moved them.

Would be kind of funny if Philly gets more 2025 picks. Loading up on one of the weaker drafts from the last few years
Kind of funny but mostly kind of early for such a claim. Get more picks, package picks, move up , make trades for future 1sts, how funny does that sound?

Flyers have turned down multiple reasonable deals.

I don’t trust the source at all.

I’d imagine it’s a first + at this stage. But we don’t know what Briere is thinking. Laughton is their GOAT. They think he’s the end of be all. And the real leader of the room

not sure how schenn makes any sense for the leafs compared to laughton, schenn is 33 and is basically a 45 point player now signed for another 3 years at 6.5M. Laughton only has one more year left on his deal at 3M.

Yeah most likely costs much higher. I’m not really sure I’d be willing to give up what it takes to get Schenn. But we kind of need to go all in at this point. But anything we add as a 3rd line centre would be an upgrade with what we have there. Also would help to have 2nd centre depth in case Mathew’s or JT get hurt.

I could see Danford involved if it’s with the Leafs

Flyers will need to take back salary or retain a bit, but I could see this as well. Do the Flyers like big right handed dmen who throw open ice hits and not much else?

Probably would prefer Schenn, but Laughton is cheaper both in caphit and value

I honestly think it’s the most reasonably add for Toronto. The price should be a 2nd + any prospect not named Minten, Cowan or Danford.

He’s got another year which works well with Minten’s development within the club.

Acquiring Laughton really allows the Leafs to play 3 lines that score and are not defensive disasters.

Knies Matthews Domi
Patches JT Marner
McMann Laughton Nylander
Minten projects as a Laughton type, but he's not there yet. Flyers say Minten or bust

Not sure if the Flyers really want to part with their franchise player just yet.

Briere is really building around Cates, Laughton, and Luchanko down the middle. This two year rebuild is nearly over!

This should have happened the TDL before he signed his current contract, and every year since, and they have never, ever been able to pull the trigger, no matter how good the rumored deal on the table. I'll believe it when the Flyers announce it, and possibly not even then.

He is absolutely worth a 1st round pick to a contender, especially with the context that the back half of the first round this year is apparently weaker than normal.

He has 2 years left at a great cap hit. Whoever acquires him gets him for two playoff runs, and they don't have to give up term beyond next year. If a team like Toronto goes for an equivalent player in free agency, the AAV is higher and they probably need to give up 3-4 years of term.

The two firsts rumour from 2023 was a bit much, but a late 1st in a weak draft for a veteran 3rd liner with a low cap hit and ideal term, whose style of play should translate to playoff hockey, yes.

Yeah. Given all the various factors conspiring, i don't think a 1st would be at all surprising. I'd almost be more surprised if they can't squeeze a 1st out of at least someone for Laughton.

A veteran on a good contract with term left in a massively spiking cap environment, gritty play style, intangibles, decent size, boatloads of versatility to play pretty much anywhere up and down the lineup...and a pretty pathetic looking crop of "Centers" likely available at the deadline. Multiple teams reportedly interested. That all sounds like a bit of a little bidding war that probably ratchets the price up into that "late 1st" territory, especially in a draft that is being looked at as fairly weak on 1st round depth.

And a bunch of people will be surprised and laugh and say "overpay". But we've seen this kind of thing before. Teams will pony up for what they at least percieve as a perfect "playoff ready" addition at the deadline.

Laughton makes zero sense for WPG…but Chevys gonna Chevy
I mean, if he's going to be bottom 6 scoring depth that doesn't cost a 1st, it's not awful. Gus and Lambert aren't playoff caliber, Chevy understandably would want a fully firing roster - even with injuries. If Laughton is the ONLY forward pickup we make, I'd be very concerned about the gap that would continue to exist at 2C.
